Not a fan of Hanks politics but no denying he is great at his profession. It looks great movie. I will see it.

"Das Boot" would have to be one of the best war movies ever made. Certainly top 5.

Have you seen "Come and See" (1985 - Russian)?

How the heck did you submerge in salt water with a machine gun on the deck and expect the gun to work when you surfaced?

Great question... I'm betting "Seahawk" will know for sure but I'm guessing they used special materials and coatings. (Bronze, stainless steel, high carbon steel)

No reason the gun wouldn't work from being submerged. The water isn't going to harm the mechanism. You just don't submerge the ammunition. That is stored down below and brought on deck when needed. That is not to say you wouldn't need to allow the wtaer to drain or dry before firing. and they are not machine guns they are small canons.

Deck guns were mounted, pretty sure they have a plug in the barrel you have to remove to fire. As mentioned, ammunition is not on the deck. Machine guns they brought out when they surfaced and put them on the mounting points.

I'd still be concerned about lubrication and corrosion in a saltwater environment.

You would be amazed at the amount of maintenance they do on naval vessels.

Also remember WW II U boats were not true submarines, but rather submersibles. They spent most of their time on the surface. Sometimes they didn't even dive to attack.
Of course, when your deck is only a couple of feet above the waterline in the North Atlantic, you're going to have a lot of rust prevention stuff on everything anyway.

Absolutely. I'm just curious how they accomplished it.

I'm disappointed. There's nothing like the big screen!

EDIT: Set for: July 10 Debut.
