Totally agree. The main reason I watched it more than 30 minutes was because of Charlize. I still liked her best in Prometheus.

For sure. A versatile actress, not afraid to change her body for a role (ala De Niro).

ATOMIC BLONDE is a kick ass Charlize Theron movie with a great soundtrack and a 930.

I don't actually care about the realism as I always go online and read up on whatever technology/event/personalities etc to find out what the "real" story is without having to sit through our illustrious Hollywood mental giants play-act on screen for me.

I therefore avoid tear jerker movies, movies with strong social messages, movies which are a platform for glorification of some "famous" actor....I want happy endings, see a few pretty girls preferably with as little clothing as possible, get a few laughs and feel good afterwards.

If I want to become depressed or deal with idiots I will go to work.

Dennis
Well said Dennis.

It looks like you can sign up for AppleTV for a free 7 day trial, then cancel after watching Greyhound.

Agree; however, I made the mistake of watching, 'The Art of Racing in the Rain' Sunday. I had DVD'ed the thing.

I thought it was going to be a movie about racing cars, you know, in moisture.

By the time I figured out it was the single most maudlin, sappy, over the top, tear snatch and jerk movie of all time I was in for the duration...I could not stop watching.

Jesus, I go in for "Heart String Recovery" surgery tomorrow.

Again, having sailed around the world flying off Frigates and Destroyers doing ASW and many other missions, I can't wait to watch Greyhound. I have been on the bridge of an FFG in big seas and lived the green room experience. Many times. Also, "man-bed separation": The pitch rate as the ship enters and exits the wave will lift you out of your rack. Every bunk and rack has belts to keep you in.

Spoiler alert: Any helos?

whats funny about movies. the ones based on historical events.

i LOVE when they show images of the ACTUAL people, usually next to the actor version. at the end of the film. (same goes for sports films) they will typically play some saddened walking into the sunset type song.

its fun to see who they pick for what parts.

.....no helo's but there are a lot of severely angled decks.....

As for being caught in the maudlin trap, those are the kinds that my wife usually wants to watch (why is it that girls want a movie that they can cry along with? One of the other mysteries of womankind.) and then I get sucked in and next thing you know my eyes are sweating uncontrollably and...sheesh...I look for places to hand in my mancard.

Ah well, you'll like it......it will be entertaining....

Yes, and interestingly they usually look like normal humans, complete with crooked teeth, bad hair and all the vagaries that run rampant throughout the gene pool.

From my recollection, none of the men depicted by actors look like Tom Hanks and none of the women look like Charlize Theron, yet they actually did the act of greatness by just strength of character...

I was kidding, no place to land and, the ships in those days really pitched and rolled,

No sonar dome, no hull mounted stabilizers, other hull mods, etc. Here is a pick of an FFG hull mounted fin stabilizer that was automatically controlled to help with roll:

Back end, the business end

Not big ships.

I watched it last night...don't get your hopes up. It's mostly digital eye-candy with ho-hum acting (Elizabeth Shue's part could've been cut and not even missed) trying to prop up a very thin and predictable story line. Not even remotely close to the energy and intensity of Das Boot or U-571.

I think this film would've totally bombed had it been released to theaters as a summer 'blockbuster'.

And no helos either...

Did we find a way to watch it yet with no Apple TV?
