Another thread about my uncle- good car movies suggestions!
You all have helped out in the past with magazine ideas for him. As an update, I got him the suggestions from ppot, which have slowly started to trickle in to his room.
Spoke to him tonight. He's a little bummed out (being bedridden in a nursing home)- so we talked about 24 hours races, and he was completely unaware of the newer "Ford vs. Ferrari" movie. I told him there were some younger actors, Matt Damon did okay, but Christian Bale nailed it. And he bit... (which is like getting him to say "Here... Welcome....get ON my lawn..") ![]() Although his latest car 'was' a Z06 vette, he's basically a muscle car fanatic. He's owned a number of mustangs and the Grand National when it was the big kid on the block. I need to get him a copy of the "Ford vs. Ferrari" movie. In short, I feel a very powerless over current situations, and would like to get him as many car movies as possible that have 24 hour races (or big block content). These will need to be movies his current "wife" can get to him on a computer or something. I think he only has cable in the nursing home. In short, I need: 1.Car movie ideas 2.A plausible way to get them to him I want to keep him entertained and busy! I asked if there were a VCR or DVD player in the room- he said NO! (A reflection on how out of touch I am on current technology). Please advise. Seriously- thanks. Ron Last edited by LEAKYSEALS951; 03-11-2020 at 04:52 PM.. |

Netflix and an IPad, download them to an iPad and give it to him, only issue is power, so an charger or battery pack would help.
Many, many good car documentaries on NF, Shelby, F1, etc. Good luck!

You can get a tablet on your plan for cheap. I am only paying 10 or 15 bucks a month for my tablet plan.

You can also just buy a self-contained DVD player. About the size of a cigar box. Pop in a DVD and play it. Battery powered or wall plug-in. It's saved a lot of parents on airplane flights and long car rides. The iPad/tablet with wi-fi access for a streaming service idea is also good.

I was trying to figure out how to get my dad a copy of "Tombstone". No WiFi in their house. Only cable at the beach house no WiFi. WiFi at their office, but no smart TV. I have a smart TV for them to watch at my office, but that means they have to manage to learn how to use the remote and manage to stay put and not fall asleep.
So the only real viable option is: (1) DVD player as Noah suggests; (2) DVD disc. An 80-yo person doesn't want to learn new tech just to watch a movie. They'll just skip the movie. |

And if you want access to newer movies (Ford vs. Ferrari, etc.), and premium shows/series, then I'd add Amazon Prime/Video as well. The new/premium stuff still costs money, but there are typically both buy and rent options. Plus, there is a lot of good free content. |

How about old TV shows, like "Highway Patrol"?
You can get him "Le Mans" along with a model of the car, and then some Steve McQueen movies as a follow up. |

I agree on getting him a tablet. I imagine the home has wifi?
Some ideas... Amazon Prime allows you to download all of their content including Grand Tour. If he has wifi, he can watch about 1/2 of the original Top Gear series on Amazon Prime. On Netflix, there is Fastest Car. For movies, American Grafitti The Art of Racing in the Rain There are lots of choices.

Thanks all!
My wife and I were discussing this last night- and tablet is probably the way to go. The key is keeping it easy enough for him to access it. He is not tech savy. My wife was thinking loading it up with stuff and sending it to him. I also like the portable DVD idea. I think I might even have one laying around here somewhere. Thanks again, Ron |

I'm sure he's seen American Graffiti but it's a great movie. Big Block 55 Chevy and the soundtrack is good too. Good luck. ![]()
