I mean the fear mongering... it is over the top.

I thought I was safe when I checked the weather - even the damn weather sites have CV stories (good news, it dies off faster in warm climate)

Anyway, I'm sick of the hysteria.

I suspect a lot of parents of grade-school kids must be pretty pissed that their daycare went away.

The hysterical reaction to supplies is getting old too.

If you think the hysteria at stores is bad, Imagine how it could be in hospitals next month. If the hospitals run out of beds, how are they going to treat other patients with life threatening conditions?

I'm not worried for myself, or my getting it, but I would feel terrible if someone I love were to die from my negligence.

FWIW, I am self quarantined now, for having flu like symptoms. Corona is in my town, and some people are making a point of trying to shake your hand. It may be impossible to quantify the effects of taking this virus seriously NOW, but it will be very easy to quantify the effects of the virus later if we don't make an effort to limit it.

The real problem isn't the people who we know have it, it is the people who are running around like healthy people who already have it. FWIW, I am not able to be tested for the virus because I was not in direct contact with anyone who recently came back from abroad who has it.

I think we are weeks behind where we should be in preparation for this disease, and people are foolishly trying to ignore what has already been happening in other countries. It isn't a joke when the people in hospitals doing triage have to start deciding who gets to live or die. That is already happening in Italy.

Like I said, I'm not worried about myself, but I am so not caring about your inconvenience. There is a good chance that someone you like will die of this disease. We do the right thing not because it is easy, but because it is right. Delayed gratification now often pays dividends in the future.

Often the hard way turns out to be easier in the end.
This virus could take 9 months to run its course. If everyone took it seriously, it wouldn't have to.
This isn't a media hype.

And the fatigue, the issue is the constant drumbeat. The first 20 minutes of the local news if Coronavirus or the hoarding. Almost no car accidents, murders or robberies being reported.

I put this up on Faceplant and someone said they were too busy in line for TP to do all of those things.

Doing the right thing does not include PANIC. You can tell yourself that the Pollyanna sensational screaming is Doing the right thing but it's not.

People don't have sports for the moment and now they are even more obsessed with their panic. Their imagined over-run hospitals...

I am so close to CV19-ground-zero-US that my commute takes me thru the corner of the town where all the old people got this and died. But this CV19 is not the threat that H1N1 was. No where near.

Did people panic in 2009? --Going by the numbers there was a hell of a lot more to panic about then. Both young and old got it and died. Swine flu infected 60 Million Americans with 300,000 Hospitalized, over 1000 dead before "national emergency" was declared, and even then... "wash your hands."

What are we (US) looking at here and now?

-a few hundred carrying (many w/o symptoms)
-People at risk are those who get taken out with any flu/cold season.
-Social media hype and traditional media hype panic.

That's what we are seeing.

You may want to revel in your panic to feel woke or some crap. but where where you in 2009? (not a mention from you on that H1N1)

With up t a 14 day incubation period, the COVID 19 could surge any time.

Thanks for the post Zeke. The weeks long incubation period is telling. Reports of minimal symptoms from younger carriers is also telling. It tells us that a healthy body typically deals with this virus reasonably well. (much better than a knock anyone on their ass flu) Of course like so many cold viruses the body may respond with more fever and mucus production (both trying to eliminate the virus) than a frail body can take. -THAT is a problem. But that has always been an issue.

This isn't like some Ebola virus that tears the crap out of any human body. And yet people are acting as if it is. I thought it might be a regional over-reaction, but this freak-out has become a national sensation.

I'm not going to lie, I do like the light commute traffic. And it's nice to see that community can respond quickly; but really, this is just a fire-drill.

This is what I find perplexing, it is just not a US national thing...................... I can only chalk it up to a psychological weakness of the current times, brought on by 70 years of most everyone never having experiences an existential threat.

the world has turned chicken*****............. the MSN and politicians LIVE for this control opportunity. dramatic theater played out wholesale........

I think 90% of the hysteria and panic is on TV and the news media. Go outside and things are fine. Just got back from a week long vacation in the Florida Keys. No hysteria to be found there or in the airports coming home yesterday.

Sure...there are idiots everywhere...and they have your toilet paper. The rest of us are just biding time until this too blows over.

At least we no longer have climate change to worry about! (That’s a joke).

OK, schools are closed until Apr 29?
All daycare is closed.
No cases within 100 miles.
So since the wife is a nurse the kids are going to be transported 100 miles into the epicenter of the outbreak.
All school is going to be conducted online.
Why are the teachers still being paid for not doing their job?
I will press for this online schooling to be an option next and every other year.

Well a little fear dropped the bottom outa the Global Equity markets.. I mean 2000 pts on the DOW in a day is gona catch your attention real quick...and CAUSED THE FED to shovel in 1.5T....500B a day to back stop Equities...and go to QE4.5...dey is gona be buying lots of paper...and dare one say Equities as well.

Ohh Daddy it is more than a little ole Virus that got things rollin down hill...the FED has been ratcheting up their REPO window activities steadily since September 2019.

Why that fact doesn't catch more peoples attention is beyond me???

So the FED balance sheet is going from 4.2T tooooo 5.7T with NO STOPPING IT... That is WHAT IT IS TAKING TO KEEP INTEREST RATES AND THE ECONOMY STABILIZED...otherwise everything just fkin evaporates... as you have seen in the past month...
