Contract tracing won't do any good with with the mass gatherings. A complete lockdown's an impossibility. Someone needs to work. The CA case chart is really telling. The chart I posted previously is from the official dashboard. Notice the sleight of hand in the axis to make it look better than reality. Here's the more accurate depiction of the trend. About 2x every month in daily case count.

What’s changed is that the maximum feasible duration of a broad shutdown has been reached.
What did it accomplish? Some areas of the country are better prepared to treat a surge of Covid patients now than they were in March. And we’re 3-4 months closer to new drugs than we were then. What did it not accomplish? Many areas are not better prepared to treat. Most areas still don’t have contact tracing capacity to actively find and isolate infections.

It appears that by in large, Texans have decided to care fuuk-all about this; two friends went to the Mesquite Rodeo Saturday night (Mesquite is a small town that borders Dallas), sent me pics, and not even the workers and participants were wearing any protective gear, and my brother just sent me a message that Rockwall (15 miles east of Dallas) is holding a concert on the square, and while driving by he could see that it was a packed free-for-all with no protective gear in sight. And all the while, the state, and Dallas County, keep releasing record daily rates of infection and hospitalizations stats (a record set for each last week on Monday and Wednesday).
I guess there are plenty of people that think stats are false, or would simply rather take risks with their health, as well as the health of others, than to be further inconvenienced. Or maybe that is an example of southern hospitality at work; howdy neighbor, I've got some of the COVID and it looks like you could use some too!

To use your analogy, Karen, If you are wearing your seat-belt, how is it less safe for you if the guy in the car next to you is not? Because you might have to rage at him -in a Karen sort of way-- and that might make you crash?

The cases are really blowing up around here. 10x what it was when we first started.
I’m staying cautious. Keeping my distances and keeping up with cleaning my hands before touching my face. I had to work yesterday, and we were in tight quarters. Faack!

BTW, is raw calling non-maskers " brazen, fuuck-you-idis that is both silly and juvenile." not name calling? Asking for a friend. And just so no one gets too nervous, raw kind of likes getting jabs like that.

What makes you think I'm not wearing one of those right now, pNutz?!?! I'm smart enough to have an activated charcoal canister over those nose-holes, however (the only modification I made when the COVID started to do its thing! ).And guess what! Island has one just like it, except that bisch chose camouflage instead of BOSS black!!! The word on the street corner (when I was there collecting my money!!!) is that CabsSuckBiggly has one as well - no word about his color choice, but given his 911 style preference, smart coin is on pink! ![]() Quote:
).For what it's worth, I have not once worn a mask in public - just can't fathom doing that, so my answer is to not go places that taking such precautions might be of some benefit. Yes, that is a major inconvenience, but I don't mind, since it's not that big of a deal to me (I have no problem ordering everything I need for work and home, and don't mind putting my social life on hold for the time being, and entertaining myself by remote-watching movies and UFC events with friends). The freeeeeeedoooommmm peeps here seem to equate that with fear, but to me it is just caution mixed with common courtesy. Quote:

It would seem the answer to the question "what changed between March and June " would be : the social behavior of a large part of the population. Most of us are aware of the benefits of simple acts such as maintaining distance and frequent hand washing. Those strategies work with most viruses, but we need to be reminded. I guess we are slow learners.
Best Les
