Commandos in WW2, SOE folks in WW2, weren't brutish looking muscle men.. They were lean, athletic and strong, but they didn't look muscular to modern day standards.

Fleming wrote Bond to tell the story of what he and others had done in WW2, but could not talk about because of the Official Secrets act.
Many things in the early books are based on actual operations and people. And they were not Thuggish super men.

So no.. Craig looks the least of all like what Fleming had in mind
Fleming actually didn't like Connory, and wanted David Niven.. who turned down the part.

See : Craig doesn't look anything like David Niven .. He was more of a dandy.. like Fleming was.

If anything, Bond now is no different from Jason Bourne.. He's turned super strong and boring.
And screwed up several times in the last movies.. shameful really..Bond became fallable.. and boring to boot.
If 007 was supposed to be a dandy, then Roger Moore may have been the most Bondish of the bunch. Dandy, not thuggish, but always got the job done.

Or maybe Lazenby since Moore was almost spoofish.

Fleming once said he didn't have a Connery in mind when he wrote the character but thinks he fits the part perfectly.

I would say Lazenby, but he had a bad script really.. had to be all vulnerable when Contessa died at the end.. His Bond is much underrated.. The movie really was one of the better ones.

Aaah Tracy Bond...

But Roger Moore sure was a good one, bit too much gimmicks but he definately stands well above anybody who followed him.

Agreed, nearer to 75. I was a kid when I think she was already pretty well established. Certainly, somewhere in the 70-80 range.

There are a lot of folks not following the rules of the thread.

Add a picture on every post.

A Dandy? Weird, when I think "dandy" don't think James Bond at all. I think "dandy" I think of David Hyde Pierce from Frasier.

Or this "Dandy", you know Jim...
