Sale of town lots began on April 15, 1855, with some going for as much as $2,000. The town immediately flourished on the Missouri River, with a population of over a thousand. Today, there is little is left.

1937/38 - Kienzle display trailer and truck
Historical Kienzle advertising car. In 1937/38, 2 of these cars were built with a Mercedes chassis and a body from Gaubschat, Berlin-Neukölln. The vehicle was 16m long and weighed 11t. Theoretically, it offered room for 75 people. Inside was a watch exhibition for professionals, outside showcases for the public. The vehicle had a radio receiving system, a gramophone and microphone transmission to loudspeakers and an electrical center with its own motor and charging station. The two accumulators had a weight of 500kg.

Montana, 1901

Mugshot of Solomon Sivils who was sentenced to 18 months and fined $10 for introducing liquor into Indian Territory in 1904. In 1834 legislation was passed creating penalties for the sale, barter, or introduction of alcohol onto Native American lands – with an exception to meet the needs of members of the United States military that may be serving on tribal lands. The reservation ban on alcohol, coupled with a prohibition of Native Americans being sold or consuming alcohol even off reservations, would continue for over a century, even after the 21st Amendment ended national prohibition.

Some old family pics. The old guy on the horse and sitting in the chair was my grandmother’s grandfather. Her dad was one of the younger men in the family pic. My grandmother was born in 1909, so I’m guessing the time frame was late 1800’s.

Somewhere in Texas.

Very cool. I wish I had similar from my dad's side of the family, but my grandfather divorced and remarried which caused some sort of rift, so I don't really know much or have much from that side of the family. I was born when my grandfather was 60. He was born in 1910. Unfortunately, I didn't really get to know him well as an adult.

Random old photos of families

Here is a very interesting real photo postcard of a "View North Terrace State Capitol, Oklahoma City, Oil Field" in about the late '30s. At that time Route 66 ran right by the Oklahoma State Capitol. You can see a service station across the street and many oil rigs since there was a major oil field discovered here. Oklahoma was known as the only state capitol complex to have working oil wells on-site. There are still several working oil rigs still near this capitol building today. Oklahoma City has many iconic Route 66 landmarks and is the largest city on Route 66 in Oklahoma.

There are just a few wells left on the grounds now. All of them are "stripper" wells, and the easy extraction oil is gone. Now the pump jacks just run a few hours per day, and the towers are not really needed, but left there as a visual reminder of the olden days.

April 19, 1919 – Leslie Irvin of the United States makes the first successful voluntary free-fall parachute jump using a new kind of self-contained parachute. Irvin was born in Los Angeles. He became a stunt-man for the fledgling Californian film industry, for which he had to perform acrobatics on trapezes from balloons and then make descents using a parachute, the Type-A. Irvin made his first jump when aged fourteen, and for a film called Sky High, he jumped from an aircraft from 1,000 feet in 1914. He developed his own static line parachute as a life-saving device in 1918 and jumped with it several times.
He joined the Army Air Service’s parachute research team, and at McCook Field near Dayton, Ohio. After World War I, Major E. L. Hoffman of the Army Air Service led an effort to develop an improved parachute for exiting airplanes by bringing together the best elements of multiple parachute designs. Participants included Irvin and James Floyd Smith. The team eventually created the Airplane Parachute Type-
