Here's a couple of DIY replacement saw handles.
One guy had 2 saws that both needed new handles, so he went to town.

Whoops, Wrong Planchet As error collectors know, the Mint makes a variety of mistakes when producing coins, and errors come in many types. This is an example of a Jefferson Nickel that was mistakenly struck on the wrong planchet -- a planchet intended for a Lincoln Cent instead. As a result, the coin is the color of a cent instead of a nickel and the design could not fit correctly on the planchet. Boldly detailed and certified MS64 Brown by NGC! 1963-D 5C Jefferson Nickel -- Struck on 1C Planchet -- MS64 Brown NGC.

IWO JIMA.
ORIGINAL HISTORIC WARTIME CAPTION. A runaway propeller flew off, knocking out the No. 4 engine and ripping a huge hole in the side of this Boeing B-29's fuselage. Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands.(N.A.)

And yet, they're not covered in filth.
Even impoverished people had some standards back then.

That's pretty cool. Looks like their value is in the $500 range, which seems really low. I remember finding steel pennies in circulation from the '40s. But those were deliberate and in the correct size.

Excuse me- gotta grab some soap...

IWO JIMA.
Original caption. Air Force mechanic pauses in his check of a North American P-51 "Mustang" to hand a discarded piece of the plane to Sgt. Johnnie Thornburg who builds scooters from such donations. Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands. (N.A.)
How cool would a scooter made from P-51 parts be?

The S.S. Thistlegorm. Sunk in 1941 by a German Heinkel HE 111 and rediscovered in the early 1950's by Jacques Cousteau.
She was carrying supplies to the Western Desert Force including trucks, motorbikes, UC-MkII tanks, aircraft spare parts, munitions, wellington boots and steam locomotives. For anyone into wreck diving and wartime heritage, this dive is hard to beat.
