Proof that some people have too much money. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1696627349.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1696627349.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1696627349.jpg This is the turbo supercharger system in the P-47. Many aircraft engines used mechanically driven superchargers, often connected directly to the crankshaft, with multiple compressor stages and two-speed transmissions. Conversely, some designs incorporated turbo-superchargers, powered by exhaust gas pressure. Turbo-superchargers, having numerous advantages, didn't require direct coupling to the engine. For instance, the turbocharger in the Republic P-47 fighter was a full thirty feet behind the engine, tucked away aft of the pilot in the rear fuselage. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1696627349.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1696627349.jpg |
