I have done that a few times. It feels you are in the twilight zone. Drive for hours, stop to rest or get gas and a snack, drive hours and the gas stations look the same, and you wonder if you really went anywhere. Drive for more hours and repeat.

For some silly reason, I can't quite get past the fact that the bananas
are drawn hanging upside down.

And I remember the first time a runner did it under 10 seconds, and everyone was astonished.

Charlemagne's Throne in Aachen. From then until 1531, it served as the coronation throne for thirty-one Kings of Germany.

I've always seen them like this below,
apparently they were inverted after they
were cut from the tree for easier handling?
Good thing I got up this morning to learn something new.

Now I can enjoy that cartoon.
Except gorillas are not hired as lounge singers.
What gives?

Having grown bananas, I can attest to the fact they grow the other way around. It starts out as a giant flower. As the bananas grow the weight pulls the stalk over and the bananas point up. When you harvest them, you cut the stalk to include the bend. The bend makes a great hook to hang them by in your garage where animals can't eat them.

Fun factoid. They're not trees at all.

Fact for the day:

People who live in Queensland Australia are called Banana Benders. The reason being the (late) queen was in Australia for a visit and asked a young man what he did for a living. He said his job was to put the bend into bananas.

I had a friend in high school, ethnically Greek. He used to call himself Juan Motai and he was a taco bender. He had a stunningly beautiful older sister, and she had a boyfriend he called Crusty. They'd walk through the living room and Crusty would say "Monica, what's that you have on?" She'd reply "It's called Come To Me. Does is smell like Come To You?"

We were in shock and couldn't stop talking about it.

I bought my one and only pack of cigarettes in my life from a vending macing outside of the base bowling alley on Maxwell, AFB. It was 25 cents for Camels. I was 12 or 13 and the big sign said no one under 18 allowed to buy cigarettes. My buddy and I each wasted our quarters, but we got away with it!
It was way more fun buying them than smoking two or three and throwing them in the river and asking myself why anyone would want to do that. That was the last time I smoked.

UPDATE: BBS Insolvency Isn’t Quite as Bad as We First Thought
https://www.hagerty.com/media/news/update-bbs-insolvency-isnt-quite-as-bad-as-we-first-thought/

Quote:
“The BBS brand has been co-owned for over 10 years,” Donnelly explained. “The German factory that just went into insolvency is the factory that produces all of the cast products.” Here’s where the important distinction lies: “BBS Japan owns the Motorsport department and produces all of the forged wheels for OE and the aftermarket,” he continued. “They also provide the Motorsport department with all of the aluminum forging and magnesium forgings that they need for everything that they make.”

According to Donnelly, there are no financial connections between BBS Japan (including BBS Motorsport GmbH) and BBS Autotechnik GmbH.

Putting any sort of "this way up" or "do not bend" or "fragile" on a package carried by USPS, UPS, FedEx is pretty much pointless.

The dark, sleazy back roads of the Texas hill country are demarcated by signage exposing the low moral character of the local cattle.

This photo was taken by the owner of the hive. The beekeeper forgot to put the frames in which the bees collect honey, and the bees built their own architecture from the honeycomb, which takes into account natural ventilation, so that the air can flow freely and maintain a stable temperature. This is the heart

The world's first television remote control, known as the "Flash-Matic," was invented by Zenith engineer Eugene Polley in 1955. The Flash-Matic used a beam of light to control the television, with a flashlight-like device that emitted light signals to turn the TV on or off, change channels, or adjust the volume. This early remote control represented a significant innovation in home entertainment technology, allowing viewers to control their televisions from a distance without needing to manually operate the set.

I was the remote control for many years at our house as a kid. I heard "Glen, turn the channel" a lot.
