![]() The 1965 Dodge Coronet A990 stands as a legendary icon in the world of drag racing. Equipped with a powerful 426 cubic inch Hemi engine, this model was specifically engineered for NHRA competition. Dodge produced just 101 units, featuring a lightweight design with bucket seats from the A100 truck line. While most A990s retained the standard wheelbase, a few were transformed into "funny cars" with altered wheelbases. This unique modification involved moving the axles forward, which placed the front wheels just behind the fender and the rear wheels nearly under the rear seat. This shift in weight distribution enhanced traction, giving these cars a crucial advantage at the starting line. The A990 remains a symbol of raw power and innovative design in automotive history ![]() The Chrysler 1964-65 DOHC 426 Hemi is a fascinating piece of automotive history, representing what could have been a game-changer in performance engineering. Designed with a dual overhead cam setup, this engine promised incredible power and efficiency, but it was never produced or run under its own power. As whispers of the DOHC 426 Hemi reached NASCAR, the organization swiftly moved to ban all overhead cam V8s in 1966, effectively quashing Chrysler's plans. With this new rule in place, the need for the DOHC Hemi evaporated, and it became just another “what if” in the world of racing. Though it never hit the track, the DOHC 426 Hemi remains a symbol of innovation and ambition, reflecting the fierce competition of its era. ![]() This image shows a worker operating a massive gas engine at the BASF power house in 1917 BASF, a major German chemical company, used these engines for generating power during industrial production. The large flywheel in the background is part of the system that would store rotational energy, allowing for more stable operation The scale of the machinery highlights the industrial advancements of the early 20th century, where mechanical powerhouses like this played a critical role in driving production and innovation ![]() ![]() Young Ferdinand Porsche at an electrical installation. Boy, does that bring back memories. Both my aunt and my grandmother had formica and steel kitchen tables like that. They used Fiesta Ware dishes. I remember a Fiesta Ware water pitcher that was kept in the 'fridge.

![]() ![]() ![]() 13,000 horsepower—a staggering amount of raw power packed into the Pratt & Whitney R-4360 radial engine. To put this into perspective, the legendary B-17 Flying Fortress had only 4,800 horsepower. That means the XF-12 Rainbow, powered by four of these beasts, had nearly three times the muscle of the B-17. The result? A mind-blowing power-to-weight ratio of 0.128, superior even to its competitor, the Hughes XF-11 at 0.103. This engine wasn’t just about brute force; it was a technological masterpiece, propelling the Rainbow into aviation history ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() This image showcases the Napier Deltic, an opposed-piston, valveless, two-stroke diesel engine, which was originally developed for marine and railway applications. The Deltic's unique triangular arrangement of three banks of cylinders sharing a common crankshaft at each apex made it a compact and powerful engine with high power-to-weight ratios. Its design allows for a high level of mechanical complexity and innovation, with each bank containing two pistons that face each other in a single cylinder, negating the need for cylinder heads and valves. The Deltic saw extensive use in British naval vessels and locomotives due to its durability and efficiency. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Family between Dallas and Austin, Texas, 1936. Nah, probably someplace like Turkey based on the headwear. Or it could be a Star Trek TOS set. Looks like a Gorn laying there with it's head broken off.

![]() ![]() ![]() Another unique Indy car engine. This time the Ilmor/Mercedes/Penske 209 cu in pushrod V8. 1000+ HP. Developed in almost total secrecy. OHC engines were allowed 45 inches of boost, but pushrod engines were allowed 55 inches and this one drove a huge gap in that loophole Won Indy in 1994 with Al Jr. at the wheel. Engine was SO dominant that it was essentially outlawed for the next season. ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Rock and Roll Ride: This 1948 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette, famously known as "CadZZilla," is a custom creation by renowned car builder Boyd Coddington. Originally owned by ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons, this iconic car features a unique blend of classic styling and modern modifications. A true testament to the art of custom car build. ![]() ![]() ![]() A glimpse into the past—behold the ultra-rare Franklin O-805 engine! This isn’t just any powerplant; it's a piece of aviation history, a testament to American engineering during the mid-20th century. The Franklin O-805, an air-cooled, horizontally-opposed, 12-cylinder aircraft engine, is an exceedingly rare sight today, known for its use in experimental and light military aircraft. Designed to deliver smooth, reliable power, this engine is a symbol of innovation from a bygone era, embodying a time when engineering pushed the boundaries of flight. ![]() ![]()
