The road is one of the scariest in the world. 810 Pakistani and 82 Chinese workers lost their lives, mostly in landslides and falls, while building the highway.
The route traces one of the many paths of the ancient Silk Road. The road has a length of 800 miles, started in 1959 and was completed in 1986.

A good friend has almost completed the restoration of her aunt's house in a small port in southern Nova Scotia. By the layout of the house, it was built as a gentlemen's club with large lounges on one side of the main stairs and a tiny office and domestics quarters on the other. The back stairway looks almost exactly like those in the first image.
