Our rescued lab used to be afraid of every noise under the sun. After some training I can shoot a ground squirrel and she doesn't even flinch. It takes time and mostly they look to you to see how to react with noises.
We started with her when she was eating. Lots of good info out there.

Wow. My dog was better last night! I sat in the floor and he laid next to me. Minimum whining. He was trembling a tiny bit.
I may skip the meds tonight.

G'day!
|
We had a rainy evening which mitigated most of what we usually get.
That said....this isn't my 15 year old girl's first rodeo. She knows the drill and as long as I'm there with her she knows everything will be OK. I just gave her a nice bath so she's looking good for the nation's birthday party today! Good luck with all your pups! Don't spare the hugs and kisses but especially keep talking to them letting them know everything will be OK...

Much quieter where I live now but there was some ******* up till midnight last night, shooting crap off intermittently. Better for the dogs, but nobody got more than six hours sleep last night. I’d like to find the guy and show hima my appreciation, in no uncertain terms.

Well, these stories bring back some great memories. Daisy was given to me by a neighbor who, very unfortunately could no longer house her. They used to give her stuff to calm her down. Our town's fireworks are shot off at the park adjoining our cul-de-sac and nearly go off right over our heads. Hundred of friends and neighbors fill the street.
The first year Daisy stayed with me she was a bit nervous. But I kept her with me and reassured her. When we sat down in the street, she sat her rear end on my shoe. She felt comfortable with that contact and would not move her hind end until after the show was over. She calmed right down. It became the same ever Independence Day. It was the only time she would do that, and she did it every year. This is the second 4th without her and I miss her sitting there on my foot as we took in the spectical.

There were FAR fewer fireworks around here this year. To our relief Owen Walter and his big sister Madison both slept like puppies.

Korey did great last night and dang was it non- stop around here, 8- 11:00pm plus. MN is a “dry” State you’re not supposed to have anything that flies or blows up- apparently no one knows!
The Twin Cities are real close to the WI border and WI must make a fortune off of us. Since they can’t stop the illegal stuff, maybe we ought to just tax them highly and sell them here and at least make some money off of it? I can’t even fathom how much money people spent in my general area, had to be in the high thousands; lots of real loud ones.

I had a tough dog back in England for 13 years .
We don’t celebrate thanksgiving on the 4th as much as you guys do , but instead we celebrate with fires and explosions on the 5th of November to commemorate somebody trying to blow up the government . Well , this big tough dog used to start the evening sat in a corner staring at the wall , then he’d go behind the sofa , before finishing the night under the bed shaking ![]() In SoCal , I have a rescue cat . This is pretty much the position she was in all yesterday , until I picked her up to bring her indoors around 10pm . ![]() ![]()

This was our pups first fireworks exposure and i was pretty nervous about it. Have worked on gunshot conditioning since he was very young but you never know. Very happy to say we had no issues.

My 13-year-old Aussie has lately become hard of hearing. Teddy always freaked out at the slightest hint of an explosion. This year, nothing. And there were some very loud booms. I guess his poor hearing can be a blessing sometimes.

As a puppy took my dog outside when it was thundering. Ran towards it barking. I just sat in a lawn chair and ignored it. After a while she got bored with it and stopped chasing after it. Now she ignores the booming noises. Probably helps that I have an amusement park 4 miles away that does firesworks every summer night. Kinda makes 4th activities not so eventful. Would likely make a good gun dog.
