Also, reel mowers cut beautifully if the ground isn't too uneven. Really no comparison to rotary mowers

Reel mowers do not work on St. Augustine

The Ego Select cut is on clearance at Home Depot, $150 off. I also got a $200 rebate from the air quality board to retire my gas mower.

So far... Love it. MUCH quieter, drop the battery in and pull the handle and starts going, self propelled works fine. Way easier to adjust the height of cut and has way more than enough battery for all of my lawn plus the battery also fits the trimmer and blower. Cut at least 30 minutes to do a complete now/trim/blow of my yards.

Also since the mower folds up and is light, I can store it in a small corner of the garage now.

Hard to find a downside except it is a bit pricey and batteries won't last forever.

Ya, but think how much fun you'll miss out on by not going to the gas station to buy half a gallon of of gas every month ......

My mower is rechargeable. I charge it in seconds when I fill up the gas tank. The 2.5 gallons of gas I buy lasts most of the summer. My old mower lasted 25 years before it was so worn out the crank wobbled too much. If this mower lasts 25 years I will not be needing it to mow and I will be lucky to be able to walk at all.

The replacement battery is as expensive as the mower!

Well, not quite, but they are pricey. Depending on how big the yard is (mine is pretty small) there is a no need to get the 7.5ah replacement when this one dies out, in fact I have a smaller 2.5ah that came with the trimmer and I used that the first mow while the other battery charged and it had more than enough juice to mow and blow, and at $85, a replacement is probably on par with how much I would spend on gas over the ~5 years the batteries are supposed to last.

The ability to fold so I can store it in my garage, as opposed to outside under a tarp with the gas mower, was enough to justify the cost for me.

One thing I didnt expect was I already had a corded blower and thought I'd be selling the Ego blower that came with the trimmer combo, but turns out thats my favorite tool. I had no idea how much I hated messing with an extension cord until I didnt have to anymore!

I have had the same Honda mower since 1990, I have changed the oil twice on it, cleaned the air filter about 4 times and it mows my quarter acre reliably every time. One pull start (if you remember to choke it) and not a hard pull at that.

I store it in an unheated shed outside, right beside my Honda snow blower, my Honda powered high pressure washer and my Homelite whipper. All start on first pull.

I see zero upside to an electric of any kind. If any of these do die, I will just buy the closest equivalent I can find and never need to worry.

Now that I think about it, I might just change the oil and clean filters on all of them...its been 4 or 5 years.....

I bought a craftsman mower at a garage sale back in the mid 90's, it was old and in pretty rough shape but ran good. Don't remember how much I paid for it but it was probably around $20. Maybe $25. I've slept since.
Only problems with it was the grass catcher was ripped up and the gas tank leaked a little. it leaked just enough to empty it between uses so I only put enough gas in it to do the job that day.

I replaced the grass catcher, one of these days I'll get around to fixing that gas tank

The ex girl friend has back trouble, can't pull start her mower. I bought her a Toro electric after some research. The EGO is a lot of plastic, toro is the same famous recycler, only it replaces the engine with a motor. All steel deck and self propelled. She loves it. EGO is a Chinese battery company that started making outdoor equipment. Toro is a US company, so that is were my money went.

Just bought a Makita rechargeable mower, seems to be a very well built mower

It's 36V and uses two 18V 5aH battery packs which almost cost as much as the mower itself

I like Makita power tools, better quality and more durable than DeWalt so I now have a reason to buy more cordless Makita power tools

Yesterday I bought a Stihl rechargeable mower. It seems to be about half the weight of my gas powered Husqvuarna mower. Both are 21 inches wide. The Stihl battery was charged fully in half an our. I bought a second battery in case I did not complete the hour long grass job. I am very happy with it and even my wife found it easy to use. It is a push mower. It is more expensive than a gas mower but certainly less tiring to use.

I can see these being disposable when the battery dies. Just like my battery operated drills and drivers that I throw away every 8 years or so.

Ego has a 3 year battery warranty and the reports are positve of them lasting much longer.

If I have to buy a 250$ battery every 5 years, I am fine with it. They will likely be a bit cheaper each time as batteries tend to get. No smelly trips to get gas, no hassle what to do with last seasons gas, no airfilters, No trying to hold down the engine run lever while I pick up a few pine cones in the yard, no cans of carb cleaner, Much less space in my shed, much easier on the ears, much lighter

Pretty much better in every way for me except cut width.

And the best reason to avoid a gas powered mower gets buried on page 2....

In the case of the Stihl mower the battery and charger is independent of the mower. The battery is like a five pound bag of sugar and slips into the mower readily.

A buddy just installed a fully automatic battery powered lawn mowing system from Stihl.

It looks like a Turtle, has a little charging hut that it returns to to recharge, very quiet so when it's out mowing at night no noise, Has moisture sensors so it doesn't get clogged up w/ wet grass .

Best of all it's all on auto so he never has to mow as a chore, It's Installed at 1 of his 3 homes

I love those...but I have not yet seen a good solution for my yard which has 3 separate sections, two in the front that border on a public sidewalk, not to speak of needing to go through the fence to go from back to front and return.

I suppose a doggy door kind of thing can handle the fence, but I worry about the thing wandering around with the guys walking past - and their dogs and and canines - interacting with the thing during the day or dealing with the machine going walkabout if I run it at night.
Do you have this or are you blessed with just a single big, contained yard to keep the thing confined?

Dennis
