I'm not concerned about what others think on me riding a 29" E-MTB, at least I am out there doing it, and pedaling 90% of the time, otherwise un-doable at 55 years old with a new pacemaker, and on chemo treatments.

Riding is the best.
I’ve been on a bike daily since July, all flat so not my e bike. Without trying, I dropped 15 lbs, down to college weight, and feeling stronger than ever at 69. Knees are perfect. |

I’m looking to ebikes now but my needs are different from most. I have to get one that’s powerful enough to carry an 85 lb passenger on a rear bench or banana seat. I want pedal assist not throttle only and I don’t need anything that’ll do 30 mph. I just want one that has a 30 mile range at 15 mph. Hard to find at reasonable cost.

I've been thinking my plus-one could maybe be an ebike, and it would look something like this, an Orbea Gain in CF and a 1x drivetrain with big ol' gravel tires...probably looking in the region of five large for something like this, but hey - I'm old and the world is falling apart. Might as well have some fun!

Are these going to follow the flat screen TV market/model and get less expensive with better technology over time?

My kids, 13 and 15 want to come riding with me. My problem is I go too far and too fast for their lazy asses. My older one tries and isn't afraid to give it a go and try and make this old man look bad. My younger is a complete wuss. On a longer hill, he calls quit early. I bought him an E bike. Now he's all smiles. The two of us just did a night rides to the Rosebowl and did a couple laps (3 miles) around the golf course in pitch darkness with our bike lights on full blast. We had a blast too. That's a 25 mile ride total. He kicked my fat ass in that thing going up there through the hills. Its pedal assisted but it has a throttle too. Oh, those MTB are bad ass man. I think they are all pedal assist, higher end ones anyway. I rode a friend's HAI Bike up to Angeles Crest only on the trail and forest roads. 8 miles straight up, steep too. I have done it only twice when I was a young buck in my old hard tail and it took just under two hours. Now, forget it. With the HAI bike, we drain the battery but get up ther ein under an hour. Fun stuff. These are fat tires, full suspension so rolling over ruts and bigger rocks is not an issue. Last edited by look 171; 12-06-2020 at 10:51 PM.. |

With the success of my wife's e-bike, I bought another so she would have someone to ride with. Both bought on Craigslist for large discounts. Both turbo Vados.
So here is the ticking time bomb. What happens when the batteries fail? Want to get rich? Start a battery rebuilding business. Serious. I'm in. Ebikes have changed the world. I stand by this. It is a small change, but significant. |

Converted my '96 mountain bike to an ebike about 4yrs ago when I started mountain biking again at 64yrs old.
Used it again a few years ago for therapy after a knee replacement , and got me outside vs the trainer. Took the motor off earlier this year and installed it on the trike. Built this last year to ride in the snow.

Anyone convert an old mtb to E bike with those ebay motors? I need to do this to my older boy's Diamond back.
Man, I really wish they start riding seriously and hopefully race graduating from e bikes. |

I've recently seen several E-Bikes for sale locally on Faceplant market place.
It seems like a lot of people bought them and now some of those people are trying to unload them. You could end up getting a battery, charger, wheel motor, controls etc for not a lot of money.
