No who’s Jimmy Page? I know who he is, but honestly found his stuff boring. Obviously others liked him. Just an opinion based on my eats. Funny, People have this need to defend people from their time. As far as I’m concerned Eddie was the greatest but I’m an 80’s kid. My boss stresses Clapton and some others but he’s a 70’s kid. Anyhow Eddie could slow down time with his guitar. He was magical both playing and with stage presence.

One of the Porsche Classic instructors was always working on Eddie’s cars when he was in the trenches back in the 80s. He told a funny story of how he pranked Eddie during a test drive by leaving the seat heater on (long before they were common) and watching him squirm about but never saying anything. The band really enjoyed the techs and were real generous to them.

RIP, way too young.

I had heard that the Ferrari that Sammy Hagar drives at Saugus Speedway for his “I Can’t Drive 55” video was EVH’s.

No, that was long before Sammy joined VH and Sammy kept that car for a while thereafter. I think he liquidated a lot of his fleet for his divorce from his first wife. Ed was more of a Porsche and Lambo guy. That Miura was his daily driver for a very long time.

Saw them at the Corral in Calgary in 1979. I kind of remember it... I was 16 and it was a mid week concert.
Very talented guy. Blamed his cancer on the way he had held his picks in his mouth.

Very disappointing - I always respected his skill, especially his hammer on/pull off/tap techniques.

I have heard that he (and his father) were seriously afflicted with alcoholism, so that may have been a factor in Eddie's unfortunately early demise.

The album was 10 years old but new to me.

I spent my prom weekend there. I was a longtime VH fanatic by then in 1989.

We were just another SoCal bar band slugging it out at Gazzarri's with the VH boys in 1975. We watched as they went on to change the world as we knew it.

Rest in peace now Eddie, you will never be forgotten.

Probably not the best contribution to a Tribute thread.

RIP EVH, Van Halen or Van Haggar were not my go to cassettes of the day but music of my youth, gives me good memories. Thoughts to his family.

Too bad you found one of the artists that influenced Eddie to be boring. Some of EVH's playing style came from Jimmy Page.
Defend people from my time? If I was doing that, I'd be all over myself for mentioning Jimmy Page because EVH IS from my time. I have tinnitus partly because of Van Halen and partly because those old school Kenwood 6x9's with an amp and EQ pumping Van Halen through them just sounded so damn good. I just have a good grasp of reality and who was truly influential. I'm sure Eddie influenced others as he well should because he was incredibly gifted. But "the most influential"??

Now.... back to Eddie... one of the greats for sure.

The legends of my day just keep going to the rock show in the sky.

This one hurt a bit (not as much as Neil), sad to lose your idols.

RIP
