Those old bikes are really pretty to look at but they still ride like an old bike only with modern shifting and lighter.

I jsut went out to get a pic of the forks I really like from that mid 2000 era. The look fork I held in my hand is the one I really like. Light, stiff, and they feel great riding. All carbon through and through. The straight blade fork on the yellow Colnago is an other favorite due to appearance. A bit soft compared to the curved one due to the lack of carbon and thinner blades.

My Alum. carbon Torelli. Those Reynolds forks are good forks too, stiff.

What's that new fork (1"?) for? Another build? I have a couple 1" full carbon forks that I bought new, including the one on the yellow Colnago. I like to buy it if I come across another. The Windup fork on the Merlin has alum. crown and steel steer tube. When Carbon forks came on the market, I had to have one. It completely change the feel of the old steel bike I was riding. It was instant love, I tell ya.

The one inch fork is for a track bike I intend to ride on the road and I didn't want to drill the original steel fork.

How often do you ride those bikes?

Fixie? You are just too cool. I rode a fixie geared road bike for a couple years during winter to force myself to spin through winter. It was a full on road bike, only that it has a single cog and a shorten chain.

I've been riding track bikes for longer than I can remember. I like riding on the road but I really enjoy the simplicity of a fixed or single speed bike. There's a mostly flat bike path near my house that follows the ocean. Just prefect this time of year.

Oh that's right, you are from TX. I hear there's a place call the hill country. How far are you from there?

This was a 7 mile hill climb race that peaks at 11.9 % gradient the day after a 75 mile ride in hills bigger than I see all year. I'm about 3 hours from the Hill Country, but I don't get out there enough. My hills in Houston are just head winds. I've just got to put in more miles to overcome the age deficit, that's all there is too it.

You and I both. I do know this, there are some very strong 50 year old out there. Guys that rode and raced when I was in my late teens are still doing the same damn ride putting many weekday miles who are in their early 60s. We have a track rider, sprinter, state champ from my days. This old bastard is now 58 and he still look extremely fit, muscular legs and upper body just like a sprinter should. He can put down the hurt on the youngsters.

Gotta keep it up with the riding

We have endless miles of mountains. We can go 25+ all up into the mountain and back down. The skinny punks give us a smack in the back of the head all day long.

Because of you Peter, I dug out my old bike stuff this weekend and discovered I had this new SLR saddle. Going to put that on my C40.



The NOS Cinelli stem is going on the Merlin I purchased from some one in Eastern Europe a couple years ago. The Pantagraphed Casati Nuevo Record seat post will go back on the Casati. That off set wrench you have there in that pretty tool set will just work very well.

Now I am thinking about putting back my old TTT Bars on that Colnago or back on the Casati. I rode these uncomfortable things for years. What do you think? Since I will not be riding them too often, but its cool to see it and remind me of the old days

I also bought this from the US seller on FleaBay. It will replace the one that was "mangled by the PO" visible in my earlier photos.
