![]() Thanks! The only real skills involved with the ceiling were avoiding disaster. Fastening 13" wide 15 ' long boards by myself took a bit of figuring out but disaster was avoided. The walls will be Pecky Cedar as you can see in this pic. No candles allowed in the cabin! Ceiling battens were glued and pin nailed on one side only to allow for expansion/contraction of the wide boards Last edited by gregpark; 08-28-2023 at 11:18 AM.. |

I guess this is the best place to post this...
My mistake could be your gain.. I saw magnetic feathers for table saws and decided I needed them.. so I ordered, When I got it, it sat because I was between projects...fast forward to me starting up another project, out come the feathers.. and alas my table saw has a composite top.. so these are no use to me... First person to pm gets them... ![]() ![]()

I'm going to post my little projects here... instead of the fixing thread..
Finished a charcuterie board/serving tray that my GF instantly absconded with.. That's ok... I have more wood.. Black Walnut.. I layered the epoxy to emulate 3D rushing water.. ![]() In person the layers all blend to look like a quick running stream... hard to photo..

This vid describe use of feather pretty well, and shows the magnetic one I mistakenly bought...
And yes I used to make my own feather boards frequently... I saw this on my feed and impulse bought

I've got this on the way. Millers Falls #97.
It's got 5 modes (in addition to the 2 speeds) Mode 1 - turn the crack and the bit goes the direction that you're turning. Mode 2 - turn the crank clockwise and the bit goes clockwise, turn the crank the other way and it ratchets. (useful if you can't get a full rotation due to tight space) Mode 3 - The same as mode 2 but for left handed rotation Mode 4 - Turn the crank in either direction and the bit goes clockwise Mode 5 - Turn the crank in either direction and the bit goes counter-clockwise.

Cool. THe other "lamb's tongue" that I'm familiar with is specific to saw handles.
Down at the bottom of the handle in front of where your pinky would be lamb's tongue ![]() no lamb's tongue ![]() Online Reference of Disston Saws -- No.7 and D7 Models and a tidbit about the nib towards the toe of the plate. Quote:
Disston saw from the late 1800s, lambs tongue handle and intact nib on the blade

This is pretty hard core. Some guy posted a photo to a facebook group. He lives in an apt.
![]() And completely unrelated is another guy that builds new handles for old hammers... out of rosewood!

![]() Got a start on the pecky Cedar walls to go with the knotty ceiling in the cabin. No trim at the sliders. I prefer the routered round over, butt to glass look. Less is cleaner with the busy peck. Beautiful table Tim! love the "moving" water. Thanks again for the feather board, it's already been put to use. I love the quick release powerful magnets for quick set up. Fastened my 9' toboggan to the ceiling. I'm guessing it's from the'40s.

I'm not sure if I posted this...
The GF wants a table she can use over her firepit...obv when it not in use ![]() So I got a nice slab of Elm.. it has a lot of character.. this is roughly 3in thick... ![]() ![]() Initial cut and trying to figure out how I want the pieces to be .. ![]() I brought the pieces back to the shop, and had them flattened and trued to a much more manageable 2-1/8 in... a 3 in slab of Elm that large is heavy ![]() Excavating some rot and punky wood.. also filling in cracks and check with a black epoxy mix ![]()

When I was a kid, and my Dad taught me about woodworking... he often said when we began a project "lets make some sawdust"
