I just got a #80 cabinet scraper... I'll use it as the final finish before applying a finish coat. Even though this Black walnut piece has tight closed grain,, there are areas where even after using 600 grit mesh some of the grain fuzzes up...I should be able to shave the fuzz with this scraper.. The areas where the grain stays raised is the transition between the dark and light wood..

The scrapers path to me is pretty convoluted... Since you cant buy a tool like this at any retail store around here.... forget Home Depot.. So I ordered from Amazon....

I didn't notice that this tool was coming from Australia.. with Prime shipping it arrived quickly.. When I unboxed it I noticed the tool was made in England... So I bought a tool That originated in England from a place in Australia...I'm in New York

Nice, I've wanted a scraper for a while. I see that there are hand held scrapers (you just hold the "blade"), and then there are a few old style scrapers, some like what you've got there that are kind of like a spoke shave, and others that are like what you've got but even bigger.

Your scraper is a jet setter! England to Aus to NY. That's quite a trip, hell, it's almost back where it started!

This guy is for sale on a vintage tool auction. Currently up to $70+shipping. Auction ends tonight.

Could end up at $75 or could end up at $120, you never know. I suspect quite a bit more than you paid, but pretty cool.

Someone else has a Veritas similar to yours up for $60 with no bids, but I suspect it'll get a few before the end.

I had a beautiful molding plane set... not as big as the one always pictured on the net but the box, and tools were beautiful, also assorted sizes of spokeshaves... They were destroyed when my basement flooded from Sandy.. The box split into pieces when it dried, all the handle split and fell off and the tooling rusted together in clumps

Good group with good people. In the last 2 years that I've been in the group, I've only heard of one or maybe two issues. It's a mostly tight-nit group of good folks. I've purchased a bunch of stuff and never had an issue.

I'm calling this one done.

Ran into some issues putting the final coat of resin on.. seems like the cambium suddenly had to out gas a lot of bubbles... Usually you can burst the bubbles with a quick pass of a MAPP torch... but the epoxy had kicked and got to thick, so I had to sand a large area out and reseal with thinner resin..

There are just a few dust motes in the finish... I'll polish them out maybe...

I've seen a bunch of epoxy stuff on YT and various woodworking facebook groups. Most of it is uninspired, but your table looks like water, and your marble look is VERY impressive!

Jeez, 7/8" anything is heavy. I imagine cedar is probably lighter than a lot of other stuff, but still. Hinge upgrade?

Very nice.

I've seen a lot of epoxy builds (mostly table/counter tops), and most of them are pretty snoozy, but yours have been very nice. I've seen one or two on YT that were also very nice.

I had some small pieces of walnut leftover, so I made her another Charcuterie board ...

I pour the epoxy in a number of layers to give the illusion of depth.

And that's part of what makes yours stand out, I think. So many just don't look like water even though you can tell that's what the maker was going for. And others are just random colors with wood. For my taste, the wood and epoxy color need to work together with each other.

This painting is inspiration for my next epoxy project... I don think Ill try and replicate the trees, or boats with epoxy..

I'm trying to figure out the order of the application of different colors, and how and what I'll need to mask..The big wave will need to be outlined by brush because the contrast with the sky is small..

FWIW this painting was an inspiration for one of my tattoos... incorporating my zodiac sign, and the surf... ( l live 4 miles from the ocean)
