I cannot recall the manufacturer, but didn't one of the trials have a side effect which sounded like transverse myelitis? The news I read was always very vague about this. But if it was transverse myelitis, that's one of those dreaded worse-than-the-illness side effects. Super rare, but I have seen one woman who became paraplegic from something as supposedly innocuous as a hepatitis vaccine.
Edit: it was the AstraZenica vaccine trial.

Sorry, joking aside, seriously, let me rephrase the question, is the indemnity iron clad, in the trial and in general ? Zero recourse ?

https://theintercept.com/2020/08/28/coronavirus-vaccine-prep-act/ I'm not planning to do more than the 30 seconds of "research" represented above, but looks like little to no legal recourse unless clinical trial agreements provide remedy.

You have a bunch of islands, with animals living on them. The islands are the hosts (us), and the animals are the virus. The animals will die out on each island (either directly, or the island will vanish (host dies)). The trick for the virus "animals" is to disperse (spread) to a new island before the are extirpated on the existing island. The ability to disperse to new islands is measured by R. There are ways to prevent dispersal to new islands, such as masks, isolation, etc. It is called the Theory of Island Biogeography and there is likely a wiki on it. Epidemiologists (of the stripe who study disease spread) learn and use this concept in their models. |
