Life advice?

Tried to mountain bike with my son today but waaay too muddy. Came back for a walk on the beach. On vacation this week. Timely read gents. Thank you for the wisdom. It found a welcome audience.

I am 73. Do the math and you will see I grew up in the 60's (long hair, bell bottoms, acid rock, free love, incense burners, roach clips and on she goes). I am retired (42 years as an Environmental Scientist - very cool profession).

More good advice. I grew up in Hawaii and went to school and almost everywhere with no shirt, no shoes. I was so tanned that I could spend the day at the beach and not get sunburned. My feet were like elephant hide and walking across a black parking lot was no big deal. No one had really heard of sunscreen back then. Mom would put zinc-oxide on our noses when we spent all day at the beach at Bellows AFS.

Now I go see my dermatologist every 6 months, and he always is burning off pre-cancerious growths from my arms, and face and the occasional shoulders and back.

The same. I see the derm every six months as well and get a skin tune-up. I grew up in the sun and never put on lotion. I spent 5 years during the summer sitting in rafts taking folks down rivers. Not a drop of sun screen.



One last little dity: Volunteer. I spend a day or so a month during the week running errands at my MIL's care facility. I do one weekend day a month at Habitat for H doing admin and cleaning up their records...not locally, either. Eye f'ing opener.

we never used sun screen when I was a kid and I got sunburned bad a few times. Like blisters and sick bad.
And I've had skin cancer treated/removed three times so far.

Get up and go outside, be adventurous, take that roadtrip, hike that trail, kayak that river, try new things...you will always have good stories to tell, and fond memories to reflect upon.
