Its a track/street car. I bought an unfinished project. I had the interior done and painted the car. Its a freshly rebuilt engine and short geared transmission (came with the purchased with built specs). I have to do some digging because there's a loose wire that keeps the gauges from working 100% of the time.

On my car (1975) the "B" light is on for both parking brake and there is a switch on the master cylinder to show a fault in the braking system. You can see the switch on the master cylinder here:

Sorry guys

I sure wish there was a forum, or sub-forum on this site, where I could find an answer to this question..

That is the parking brake light. The one at the bottom of the gauge is for the alternator.

Thanks.

Looked and did some digging this morning. No wire from parking brake. Its been yanked out, only the handle is mounted there to keep the open hole shut. Corner balanced and aligned at 2214 lbs with 12 gal of fuel. I am puzzled how this light is lit up without any wired from the parking brake area?

Pretty easy to swap a wire on the back of those gauges. Does the alt light come on? Are the gauge illumination lights on?

see above - on some MYs it also is a warning re the brake fluid in the reservoir

check it - that switch might fail so the light never comes on, but you need to run it down

again as above, on some MYs the light tells you about the alt. or the VR - there is also an upgrade re putting a resistor in the circuit form some MYs

I never noticed the alt light come on before. never turned on the lights so will check. It just sat after all the work got done and the BLM riot started so I didn't want to chance it driving it around because I don't trust and don't know what's waiting for me at the off ramp. Now that I have some time, I am going to play with it a bit.

Bad ground wires and terminals on German cars makes lights do weird things. Disconnect the ground from the taillight housing and see what I mean. Voltage has to go somewhere.

No, that is incorrect

I'm guessing the OP is asking about the illuminated large red light..

Which is the Alternator warning light,

The bottom light in that gauge is the handbrake.

Apologies, my printer/scanner recently went kaput and I haven't replaced it, so pics

From a '71T manual which came with the S gauge package..

And seriously isn't there a forum, or website where 911 specific question are asked?

Not sure if you are being facetious with this comment.

I think his gauge is different than the one in your ‘71 owners manual.

If you look at his photo the top light has a B under it (handbrake/fluid) and the bottom light has a G (Generator).

big red button light is likely Emerg. Flashers

toggle switch under dash says car has been messed with...

intermittent light on while driving could be bad gnds, bad wire rubbing, of diodes failing in voltage regulator

silver button gauge says longhood but does not say which year or if it is the right year gauge for the car...

I know the tach electricals changed about '70/71 but not what else changed then

- color wiring diagrams are on here somewhere, so the fix is just a matter of time & effort
