I drain the pond down for the winter and re-filled it a few days ago.

What if you had their winter tank inside the house where it is warm? I'm guessing they would not hibernate.

That's what the bird on the left..over the waterfall..is for. It's a composite hawk.
Keeps the birds away.

Probably could...but they are too big and smelly to have inside the house.

The camera angle doesn't show....but the pond is on my deck and the patio furniture is right next to the pond.
Makes for entertaining watching while sitting outdoors.
If checking the feed..you will prob see a beer/drink or two on the edge sometimes. (or possibly that topless lady! Post #8)

Is it hard to care for turtles? I have koi ponds and all my koi died. The ponds are still full as my ducks like swimming in there.

Very easy...I've had them for about 15 years and never lost one to health reasons.
Had one last year that almost lost a leg after getting it stuck in the filter intake.
Have had a few escape over the years. Just keep the water clean and feed them once in a while. I keep a bowl with some food in it and they pick at it occasionally.

[QUOTE=dad911;11285648]Very cool.

Thanks....the pond plants look terrible right now because I over-wintered them in the same tank with the turtles.
A couple weeks of warm weather and they will perk up.

I have sound running thru my shop speakers. Water sound is nice.

I have yet to catch one getting in or out.

stevej37 04-05-2021 12:54 PM

^^^ There are a lot of bird sounds..esp in the mornings. (I have a couple bird feeders within 10 ft of the pond)
I agree there is something about water sound that is soothing. The first year that I built the pond, I had a fountain nozzle in the middle of it. Didn't like it...changed to the waterfall..much better. :)

I never look at the stars. PREH20's thread about my bumpers has one star now. BFD.

The stars don't align with the comments so ignore them.
