Those and the RX-3s were ear splitting.

That Sebring collection is very cool!
Thought I'd throw out for critique/feedback the 1 43 model car display case I'm designing for my collection Ist job, basic layout, went for date order, top left, working across, then down, Decided on one 'big or go home' display, as it's to showcase how I've squandered my working life, remind me of many fun, frustrating, joyous and disappointing moments Size is just a bit smaller than a 8' x 4' sheet of plywood or 2m x 1.1m Limited it to a 180x car display, any more and it was getting too big for a single 2.4m x 1.2m MDF sheet size Tried to visualize the various livery colours using a crude spread sheet ![]() Not done creating real cars so left space for 9x more cars, should be able to retire by then ![]() Aim is to create the vibe of a recess wall mounted LED TV screen, hence the thin, low profile black picture frame with flush glass Wall I've chosen is a partion stud wall between my garage and Mrs Ahabs's utility room. Only wall large enough, flat enough or not requiring a structural steel/concrete support beam above the display case recess ![]() ODC in me is likes the idea of a recessed pocket for each car, all the random car colors and shapes are already giving me a brain ache 1st Design Satin black pocketed back board, each pocket floor is angled downwards by 15deg to help show more than just the side view of each car, each pocket lite by a hidden 5mm LED down lighter ![]() ![]() 2nd Design White melamine faced, thin veneer plywood pocket sides, pockets angle downwards, same as 1st design, with frosted, back illuminated panel ![]() ![]() 3rd Design Same as 2nd Design , but satin black pocket sides, didn't think this would work, looks better than I was expecting ![]() Looking at other displays for inspiration, especially background colours, think the colour emphasis of each model car is influenced greatly by the background Black background helps the colours of each model pop ![]() But the contrast of a black shelve with illuminated back ground does an even better job of highlighting each models colour ![]() Don't think my 3x design attempts are good enough yet, have a few ideas of how to improve but interested to know what you guys think |

I like the one on the bottom the best. My opinion is that a 3/4 view displays car models in their best light, as opposed to the side view.
I like the white backlight a lot, but my suggestion would be to try and see if you couldn't augment the back light with some "overhead" strip lighting above the cars to add highlights to the different shapes and colors. LED strip lighting can be bought with color temperature and dimming adjustment capabilities. It's my belief that proper lighting really makes collections of machines come to life. I've been experimenting with my 1/18 scale model displays; There will be 4 of these shelf units against the wall. I believe this will be very close to the final configuration; on "lower" shelves, strip lighting will be installed about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way back, above the cars. You can see the proof of concept in black with exposed wires, , but that will all be hidden by plowing channels in each shelf with a router. On the "top" shelves, I plan to mount framed vintage photographs with a gallery-style picture light up top to provide lighting on the cars as well as the photo. I'm also experimenting with ID placards for each car. Jury is out on that idea, but it's nice to have a memory jog in my old age. ![]()

I also like the one on the bottom. To me it looks the most elegant of the concepts, having a museum display feel.
Whatever you decide will look great, no doubt.

You both have a good eye
![]() 100% agree 3/4 view looks best , cars will range from a petit Formula 3 to a super long current gen F1 to road sports cars One aspect of fitting different length/height cars in equal length/height pockets is each pocket will be filled out differently depending on each car shape Think this will be a lot less noticeable with a 3/4 view Will give the pocket concept a couple more attempts before giving up on the idea of individual pockets Also really like the look of the last photo too, simple single shelf I think will be less distracting to the eye than individual pockets Will have to reduce the height between shelves as I need 15 levels |

The last picture is the case I would choose as well so the cars can be displayed at an angle.

![]() ![]() ![]() This is the first gift Vicki ever gave me. She slipped it into my hand and said, "I saw this and thought of you." I knew right away that this woman understood what made me tick. I've been downsizing and selling a lot of my models, but this one will literally go to the grave with me.

I picked up these die-cast vehicles in Seoul for Zack. He loves emergency vehicles, so now he has a Korean ambulance and police car. They have flashing headlights, make siren noises, and are "pullbacks", oh, and the front doors open. I didn't know they had flashing lights or sounds as I don't read Korean, lol. He is having fun with them as I type this!!! He's a happy boy!!!

Latest addition to the 1:43 diecast collection. 1970 Toyota 7. Designed for Group 7 and Can-Am. 800HP twin-turbo V8. Car was very difficult to drive and resulted in 2 fatalities in testing. The car was subsequently mothballed and never entered the Can-Am series.
