^^ Can you help me understand this viewpoint..?

Almost everywhere I look there are help wanted signs, some with enticing extra bonuses never seen before. They might not get exactly the work they're looking for but they can get employment immediately.

If they work with their landlord and start paying rent they may not be on the street at all.

Now comes karma for people who didn't lose their jobs but decided to screw the landlord out of rent because they could get away with it. They won't be able to stay because they owe too much back rent (and probably spent it) and no one will want them because they have proven themselves to be scum. They deserve what is coming.

That, plus if they pay haven’t been paying their rent, what have they been doing with the $35-45,000/year unemployment (and the multiple round of “stimulus” welfare) they’ve been receiving?

That was given to, ummm, pay the rent.

No, actually as is usual with these govt policies, they will end up being the “smart” ones who will get the back rent paid in full by their fellow taxpayers.

The responsible ones who worked hard and paid their rent obligations get nothing.

Under the govt repayment agreement, when landlords sign up they have to agree up front that they won’t sue or evict for the back rent.

Lets just say the ban lifts, they will come up with something to protect them from getting evicted because they owe too much rent and that they wouldn't be able to come up with the money. More excuses to screw the owners.

I think that's the issue. If one is used to making 3+ times minimum wage, are they going to easily go back to a job that barely pays over poverty level?

When they're desperate enough to pay bills.....

I told my son to be patient with house prices. If this ban is lifted, I can imagine quite a few small landlords selling out to ensure they never have that problem again....not wanting to deal with the problems any more.

It is hard not to be vindictive when people intentionally choose not to work and the government awards them the earnings of those that do. Not far removed from slavery.

People so concerned about housing for those that are too lazy to work should invite them into their house vice expecting others to cheerfully accept the government forcing them to share theirs.

May my wish come true one day that the dead beats and the law makers get hit by a school bus at full speed. OK, I feel better now.

You talkin' bout' most my neighbors again?

I left the house couple door up empty due to covid and not having to deal with a dead beat that I can't get out. My lovely middle age, left wing, cane walkin', nut job woman saw me coming out of there with a floor mop asked why haven't I rented the place for over two years and that there are many who are struggling out there with housing and I am the one who contribute to the shortage and the high cost of rent by having it off market. I smiled and told her to move along with her dog or else, I am going to eat that animal. She stomped off.

There's no way we are getting that rent money back.

I'd be tempted to tell them to keep the money and then tell the scum of humanity to get off my lawn

Yep. Many who own larger apt complexes aren't getting involved in that. They rather take the lost then have their balls in their vice grip. I often wonder if they will stick that to you when renter can't get caught up with future rent? I bet they will pull that siht about about no eviction and twist it all up and fight it out in court. When that happens, it still costly for us and they will trash the place again.

I was talking with my Uber driver as we were rolling down San Fernando Rd in Arleta admiring the 25 mile "RV/Trailer/Camper" display.

His opinion, talking with passengers, was that Garcetti's next move was going to be forcing owners of unoccupied ADU's , SFR's and apartments to accept tenants, regardless of the landlords wishes, to ease the soon to be homeless problem.

If anything in state or local law allows such a thing, I'd be out of CA even faster than otherwise.

Garshtty, Newsome, Ted Lui, they all need to get hit by the goddam school bus. In the mean time, the school unions are pushing hard to not have this dickhead recalled.

I heard about that. WTF. Maybe my dumb neighbor voted for him. There was talk about that with commercial properties a few months after covid hit. They saw all those empty store fronts and buildings, the thinking was if it isn't rented, they want to impost a tax or fine for all the empty units or force the owners to rent them to house the homeless or various groups.

This mofos and all his cronies are in this for themselves. When the economy or realestate takes a dump, they will scoop them up, rent it to various interest groups on a grand scale and have the gov. or state pick up the tab. Laugh all the way to the bank.

I read this sometime last year and they want to make this law. If foreclosures were to take place, the owner must offer the house to its tenant. If they can't afford to buy it (they can't, no fooking way), private investors aren't allow to buy it. It will then be the state's turn or special interest group that will have a crack at it. Once that's a done deal, they will rent it back to other groups all in the name of saving the housing crises and the gov will pick up the tab. Slowly they squeeze it out of private hands in favor of their own. Sneaky bastards. We need a get rid of these thieves and vote someone else in to take charge.
