On the flip side we have two adult sons and my wife and I both had careers . The additional $$$ allowed us to do some family activities we couldn't afford otherwise . So both paths can be successful . Our two boys are contributing members of society .

I think the media (left or right) over play the "bad" side of our current culture. The media is in this for money, people seem to sometimes forget that. They want you to click on whatever they throw out there and the bad stuff get clicks.
Who wants to read about all the good stuff being done in the world these days? Show us the crazy stuff. There are plenty of good things going on now and I don't believe the culture is steadily going in the crapper. It depends on where you look and want you want to believe. Our parents used to say the same things but we (for the most part) turned out OK and we raised good kids. Some of the reasons being thrown out in the posts are just hogwash. They are generalizations with no proof or fact. |

![]() It's a lie, it's always been a lie and it always will be. It's a lie that serves a purpose though. It's not innocent. It's an indictment of a changing population by mediocre, old dudes who have never really quite understood the world so they made up their own history. In 50 years from now, there will be some liar on some message board telling everyone about how much better people were back in 2021. Stupidity is the enemy in this world, not lack of manners or some other made up BS. Don't get your education from schithouse walls or car forums.

It seems odd to me, as an outsider, that people can't see the deep divisions caused by politics in America. It permeates everything online, and not in a good way. There's a lot of hate out there.

This thread asks about the negatives of our current culture. Our current culture has grown some warts. Warts that were not there in the past. Sure, different warts were. Some even beotch today endlessly about warts of the past... demand "reparations" ... yeah, how about focusing on not making more problems. BTW, MAGA movement foundation? ![]()

Multiculturalism..in limited amounts..can bring the best parts of the world to any area. I've had the best French pastries and Indian curry in Japan for instance. Technology from the USA has benefited everyone, everywhere. Learning a new thing from those who do it best has usually been beneficial. The problems occur when the newer sub-groups decide to become dominant and disrupt the whole in their own self-interest. I will leave it at that. There are basic requirements for multiculturalism to work at all. Almost all cultures have made simple rules which work for their societies, such as peaceful co-existence, not destroying everything around ones self, adapting to and at least respecting the traditions of the host nation at least partially, etc. Change happens and different cultures take the lead, but the way it happens is the primary determinant on the entire continued success of the locale. There are too many examples in history of this not happening and entire societies disappearing forever.
