The other cohort were healthy and show no such increase in risk, in fact it showed a reduced rate (!) which is more indication of what's questionable in this study.

That's one of the confounders.

Local news was saying that this latest variant has many changes to the spike protein. I suppose that would explain how it side-steps the vax.

From the doctor (Dr. Angelique Coetzee) who discovered and is tracking the omicron variant:
“The mildness of the symptoms that we are seeing, apparently there’s no reason for panicking as we don’t see severely ill patients…”

It will be interesting if this omicron variant spreads very fast w/o severe disease, and effectively inoculates everyone against the more virulent strains.

Biden said in a press conference this morning the reason for the travel ban was to get more time to vaccinate and boost people. I'm pro-vax, but OMG, that is weak sauce. Just do the normal prove you're vaxxed or provide a recent negative test result. No good deed goes unpunished.
