So far, the physician that first ran across it and the head medical officer for that country where it originally was found have both said that cases appear to be milder then other Covid cases. I’m probably going to listen to what they have to say, more than any of these damned politicians.

The hype is all political. Gotta make the pain last until midterms. They couldn't name it Xi because the Chinese leader would be mad (after paying the WHO and the Biden family so much money), so they named it after a Decepticon (a worthy villain), to scare people enough so govts can take even more power over daily life without resistance.
