Inkjet is literally 2 decades obsolete.
I have a $99 Brother laser that is 10 years old and works perfectly

What do you guys think about this refurbished printer ? They also have a MFC-2690DW refurbished for the same price . Looks like toner is about the same $$$ between the two . The one below has faster print speed and good reviews .

I don't think you can go wrong with a brother. We have an older version of that printer, works great. Ours has an option to drop scans on a network drive (in our case, a USB stick plugged into the router) so you don't need to be near a computer to scan.
We have been buying "LINKYO" off-brand toners on Amazon with good results.

Yeah the research online shows OEM toner cartridges are 50.00-80.00 and aftermarket are 18.00-30.00 or so .Amazon has a bunch of aftermarket " compatible " cartridges and all seem to have 4 star or higher ratings .

I just ordered the refurbed Brother 2717DW printer . With tax 151.00 delivered to my door on Tuesday . Will update when I get it up and running.

^^^ I almost went with the 2690 but my wife looked at both and said I like the looks of the 2717 ............. hard to argue with that logic 😋

Today the printer was delivered as promised . Box was in great shape and so was the printer . Had it setup in about 15 minutes , as I was setting it up my wife downloaded onto our phones the Brother printer app . We were printing from both our phones 5 minutes later . All good .
Tried setting up my laptop with no success ☹️, for whatever reason my laptop couldn't find the printer via wifi . I used the install CD that came with the unit . Will attempt again tomorrow . Overall very happy 😁

Last night I " restarted " my laptop and this morning I logged in . Went to settings then printers and voila it was there . So I decided to give it a whirl and printed out the first of five John Deere manuals . It was 156 pages printed both sides . Amazingly quick and excellent quality. Thanks to all that provided advice/feedback it was helpful to make my decision .

The cartrige it comes with is not fully loaded. It will not last that long.They say when you get the low cartrige message you car do a reset and it will last a lot longer. I got anew one off ebay pretty cheap.

Looking on Amazon there are a bunch of " compatible " toner cartridges available at reasonable cost . I have to assume most are recycled OEM that have been cleaned and refilled . I see the toner powder is also available for purchase so you can refill at home . Many options to consider .

The Canon b/w laser printer that I bought at Walmart for $99 used a trial toner. It only lasted a few weeks. Went back to Walmart to get a full size cartridge and they wanted $87 for one!
Checked Amazon and they were $37

Update: so I have printed about 600 pages and have a little over 50% toner left . Print quality is great . I had enough " rewards " $$$ on my CC so this morning I ordered another toner cartridge . I decided for now to use OEM so ordered a Brother TN 730 which is supposedly good for up to 1200 pages .
At some point I may attempt either to refill the cartridge or purchase the less expensive " compatible " cartridges. After I finish printing out these JD manuals our monthly printing needs goes almost to zero . Because of that may just stick to OEM .
