Triggering Memories
While checking the weather forecast, I glanced at the historical data and saw the record for snow on the ground for this area:104 cm in 1981.
That was the week of three storms. The third was on Monday. I was working with one of our mixed route delivery drivers and eventually we were pushing snow with the bumper. The main road was closed so we parked the truck, called the office and advised them we were done for the day. Since the driver lived about a mile away, we walked to his place, I called my wife to say it was unlikely I would make it home and we had supper. Later that evening the wind dropped and the road was re-opened. We dug out my car and I made it home by 10 PM, having walked the last 1/4 mile. Our road wasn't plowed until 11, so we shoveled out our driveway and retrieved my car from the church yard. Next morning I was with that driver again, helping him get caught up when the boss showed up asking if I could help another driver who had truck troubles. By the time his truck was fixed, we were about 5 hours behind schedule and were dealing with one lane roads in places. It was 8:PM when we finished. Each day had started at 4 AM. My wife had been shoveling our driveway and saw her doctor Tuesday morning complaining of cramps and fatigue. A quick test revealed the cause. She was carrying our son. Neat story Old E !
It reminds me of a few years earlier in NW Ohio (February 1978), when our county road kept blowing shut. Some friends, and I walked up to the main state route that still had no traffic. We had to duck under some telephone lines to get past the drifts (10-12' deep). It took a wheel loader, and dump truck to finally clean our road to a one lane canyon.. |

Snow to your waist, as I found out at one house. I stepped off the running board of the truck and dropped into the snow.
It seems we get this sort of build up every 5 to 10 years. 2015 was a deep snow year for us too. Right now we are being pelted with hard rain driven by gusts of over 70 kph. At least we don't have poisonous snakes.  Best Les |

A shame we can't move weather where it's wanted..just thinking how much dry California would like more snow in the mountains for water next summer.
On the other hand, can't imagine anywhere they'd say; "Gee, we sure could use a big tornado."

We have freezing rain this morning turning into snow this aft. Had quite a bit of freezing rain this winter. Actually would prefer snow. No snakes, no bears, no bugs. Some birds and the occasional coyote. Looking forward to spring!

The best thing about winter is it makes the maple trees store sap and send it up in the early spring.

We had falling snow here in Opelika, Alabama yesterday from around 8am to 2pm but it didnt really stick. Today at the time of texting this, it is 38 degrees. No snow or rain expected today but it it just really cloudy and gloomy gray outside.
I moved to Alabama from Florida in February of 1993 and in March of that year we experienced a "blizzard" which had everything shut down for a few days. I was snowed in at our place on Lake Martin so, I enjoyed the snow. My Mother on the other hand was in Birmingham at the time and her condo was without power for a week or more. A week of rain and I am screaming for the sun. Woke up to the sound of rain this morning so we go as plan. Got help with cleaning up my MIL's house. My demo/cleaning crew haul two truck loads to the dump, all in light rain. This type of light rain reminded me of our youth, grade school age when light rain fall would fall for days. Only thing we can do is look out the windows hoping it stop so mom will let us out to play. Seems that those light rainy days are long gone.
