Bill...it's best to at least wear full face helmet, goggles, knee guards and MX boots. The usual cause for breaking collar bone is by trying to break a fall with out stretched hand/arms. If you fall try to roll instead of breaking a fall.

Tim...not sure if you'll see this. I have the '03 Honda CR250R that I owned since '06. That's pretty cool we have the same bikes.

Interesting side note. I went riding this afternoon. It was gorgeous.

Another buddy rides in safety glasses while I have been using googles. I tried the glasses out. Wow. Super comfy but most importantly, my vision was far better. It wasn’t like looking down a pipe or something.

Better vision and better impact protection? I’m sold.

Do you guys wear some sort of body armour? I don't want to go full motocross. I tend to be jeans and ankle boots (Chelsea boots), and something light over my torso. I was thinking of a chest protector with shoulder pads to wear under a sweatshirt. Nothing too restrictive. A fair weather rider, you could call me.

I'm not concerned about gravel rash.
I ride a 89 CR-250R, I have raced in the past. I just wear my Honda riding gear, so I wont look like a twit, helmet, gloves, boots and use my 35 years of riding/racing experience to do my thing. I was riding a while back and a dude with a chest protector was riding a 250 on an off camber, really craggy and rocky off camber hill. His riding technique was armature at best. He should have been standing on the pegs and weighting the outside peg, and carried some speed through the tough section. He sat down on the seat, and was just barely put-putting by, when he high sided on a small rock imbedded in the ground, flipped off of the bike, landed on his head and snapped his collar bone. I never seen one up close, but it was milky white and bloody and it tore through his jersey. I went to the gate house and had the operator call for an ambulance and the chopper whisked him away. 1 tiny rock put this beginner in a hospital, and he was in bad shape. Rider technique, and experience is how I stay in one piece. Knock on wood...

Where is the picture of you flipped again? Yeah, that is what I thought.... da this thread was not asking about you and your love of all things sxs

I have an '01 CR250R and moved to one of the Fox zip up deals for my chest/arms/back and I like it. it breathes well and does not get too hot. I also have some some knee pads that keep me from hyper extending my knee. Boots, helmet etc all the time too.

Of course I do not ride nearly as hard as I once did.

My oldest kid has ridden motocross bikes for 30 years and the only time he’s been hurt was when he rode a friends four wheeler in some sand dunes in Oregon and build off of it at a pretty high speed. Didn’t have his chest protector with him, busted four or five ribs. The only thing he hit I was sand, there were no rocks, no trees, etc.

Are you barely even notice a chest protector when you were at. Boots, on the other hand, take a little getting used to but I would not ride a dirt bike without them.

And so you should. A friend of mine died from a head injury when he rolled his SXS.

He was in his late 30s, had young kids, was out for a ride with a bunch of other friends on a weekend where I should have been there. He wasnt doing anything crazy but crazy enough that he rolled his SXS.

He died. He's dead. What a waste.

Let’s see:

MX Boots to protect from ankle twists and shin basing.
Knee pads to avoid breaking a kneecap on a rock
Elbow and shoulder guards for the above.
Helmet to keep from becoming a veg.
Gloves for road rash.

What year is the CR125? I remember I bought a blown up '75 CR125 that I rebuilt and restored back in early '80's then sold it shortly after it was done. I should've kept it. I have an '81 Maico 490 since '82...never sold it. I raced it in the open A/B for a few years then put it away (started racing 250B) for close to 30 years before I started racing the Maico again in the MX vintage races. Perhaps we should start a new thread to cover our love for dirt bikes including racing in general (past and present).

That's sad...this remind me of same thing that happened to Marty Smith and his wife a few years ago at the sand dune (Glamis?). We lost a motocross legend.

Jeans, ankle boots (Chelsea boots), two sweatshirts, full face helmet, gloves.

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, had full blown motocross bikes and MX clothing. Hell, it was meant to be an organised trail ride not an Enduro race. Mind you, I gave it death like everybody else. LOL, I was an expert by the time I got back.

I would seriously recommend some MX boots as your first upgrade. They will feel stiff at first in regard to shifting and r ar braking, but once broke in a lot
Iittle they will serve you well. They just make your lower legs deal bullet proof and will support your foot better from hard landings on the pegs and they protect from pain from legs rubbing against frame etc.

Mike, my Cr125 is a '93. I bought it used many years ago for my wife, but it was too big for her so I ended up riding it. Some years ago I basically gave it to a friend 's son who trashed it. Last year he asked if I wanted it back so I took it back to save it.

Chest protectors dont protect you in a crash, derp, they are basically "roost deflectors" for moto and off road. You wipe out on any bike you will snap bones. If you are woods riding and you get impaled, then you werent focusing on your riding. I dont do the squid monkey back flips or any childish nonsense, I used to race, 500cc A and B classes, did some cross country and enduro. No trophys wer ever won by me, but I was there man. LOL! Chest protectors just protect you from the light stuff, you will break bones, trust me! LOL!

Just took the scoot out to the trails. Been sitting for years. Runs kinda funky on stale premix. LOL! Gotta drain it and get a fresh splash of VP racing and Maxima 927. Looks good in the sun!

Yank the main and pilot jets out of it and clean them before heading back out. The last thing you want is a lean two stroke…
