Shark bite fittings - I am a believer

So the past month or so one of our outside spigots was getting harder to turn off . Almost impossible for my wife unless she had gloves on . I went in the basement , looked the plumbing over and off to the big box hardware store I go .

The current spigot is plumbed with 1/2" CPVC and of course no shut off on the inside . Was pondering glue vs shark bite and decided on the latter. Bought a 1/4 turn ball valve spigot and a straight through ball valve for inside . Both are shark bite design .

Between shutting off the well pump , cutting out the old and installing the new I had 15 minutes spent . Super easy and no leaks . The 1/4 turn outside spigot is how every house should be plumbed in my opinion . And now I don't have a can of primer and a can of glue just waiting to setup before the next use 😋

I finished our kitchen remodel early this year including new plumbing. In some cases I used Sharkbite to tie in to existing lines, but I made the connections in the garage and ran Pex A from there to the kitchen. Sharkbite is great when they seal, but sometimes they don't; a leak can be very small and take a while to make itself known. I found a persistent small puddle of water on the garage floor after tying in and found one of the Sharkbites had a small leak. I ended up replacing that with a soldered on Pex adapter. Leak gone.

If the connection is accessible, Sharkbite is great. I wouldn't be comfortable with one behind the drywall.

A couple of years ago I installed a new water heater in our house and used all Shark Bite connectors which made the job super easy to do. I also added a quick shut off to the inlet side.

It's been 3 hours since install . I just checked the repair and bone dry . I am claiming success 😁 . This is the second repair I have done in this house with Shark bite fittings . The other is also in the basement so all open and easy to see and get to .

my experience with these fittings is if you install right and it doesnt leak and thereafter dont mess with it, its good to go

Not to mention if you have one of those pipes where for some reason you just can't get the water to stop dripping, it makes a pain in the @zzz into a quick and simple project.

Yeah I've used them here and they are the cat's pajamas!

I just replace the stop valves on both toilets from gate to 1/4 turn SB ball valves and it was a breeze.

You have to get the little deburr tool.....

I've used SB with 100% success so far.
I deburr and polish/clean the copper pipe before I install them. I also put a very thin layer of Super Lube on the pipe so that the O ring is happy sliding on.

I had to replace a water heater in one of my rentals. The only water shut off was a gate valve and ball valve at the meter. The meter shut off is defective and does not shut the water off completely making sweat soldering very difficult. I used a shark bite ball valve as a replacement for the gate valve. Very quick and very little water on the floor. I like them a lot.

I would not hide shark bits in the walls ,
always be able to see them,
when they blow you will know

I only use them for temporary fix

Love the pricey buggers. When my water heater failed on a Saturday morning a quick check of my local hardware store's inventory showed they had the tank I needed. My electrical guy said he would be there at noon. I picked up the tank, some flex piping and the appropriate sharkbite fittings and had the plumping changed over and the tank full when the electrician arrived.
Happy wife =Happy life!

Any fitting or pipe can fail . I seriously doubt my well pump water pressure is going to blow off a SB fitting.

A few years ago, I did a little grading work here. My home sits on top of a dune ridge with a sloped front yard for about the first 50 feet before leveling out where my circular driveway runs.

I had decided to take that grade and convert it into terraces so I could better utilize it for my landscape needs.

Well, my friend with the excavator accidentally pulled out part of the 3/4" copper domestic water line. Luckily it pulled free right where it entered my house under a water spigot. I cut it off down below until we finished the grading work and then went about re-setting it. I had my friend who is good at soldering come over and attach a 3/4" copper stub out at the top. Then I used a Sharkbite adapter fitting that converted to PVC, took that down to the bottom, and reattached with another Sharkbite adapter. But this time I added an isolation valve (1/4 turn ball valve) and a stubbed out PVC tee for future needs.

As an additional benefit, because of this repair, I also learned where the domestic water line teed off to my garage.

The availability of these Shakebite fittings made this work SO much easier and also helped me with the decision to add the isolation valve - something my house never had....but has come in handy so many times since!
