Ordered two Ebikes today

Finally got my latest bike put together. Man this baby is FUN!

Super windy today so didn't go too far.

I like the big display screen. Very easy to read!

I still have to add a mirror and move the tail light back behind the passenger seat. It came with foot pegs for a passenger but I'm not sure I will install those.

Fat tire bikes became popular a few years back for mountain bikes. That has migrated over to e bikes. Their advantage is really on dirt/sand/snow. They make the bikes heavier and I wouldn't want them on a bike for the pavement where you want to pedal. If you are relying on a battery to move you then it is sort of a moot point.

I personally don't like bikes on sidewalks but that's tricky if there is no bike lane. Kids, dogs, adults glued to their screens..... all make for an unsafe ride on a sidewalk.

Baz, the bike looks really small in that first picture. How high is the seat and handlebars from the ground? The size of a standard adult bike?

Paul, Surprisingly....it's not too small for riding comfort at all, despite it's appearance. I will take some measurements later today.

So they're saying those who have an e-bike are more likely to ride than those without - thus they get more exercise?

I guess that's a valid point but apples to apples of course you burn more calories on a pedal bike, for sure.

Good friend of mine was ranting about e-bikes. I shared with him I saw an elderly lady riding one and what crossed my mind when I saw her was "Good for her...this probably motivates her to get out and get some fresh air and a little exercise more."

He thought about it and agreed with my point.

For me it's not "either-or".....it's just about having options. Those (damn) windy days suck on a pedal bike!

For my wife, it's an either or. She'll ride her new ebike. She ended up not riding her similar city bike with no battery. She doesn't like the hills in our area and you can't avoid them. Plus now we can ride together without her feeling like she's holding me up.

Been riding the tifgalop lately - mostly just on the beach.

Gotta say these fat tires are the cats pajamas going through any soft sand!

I have the bike outfitted with a mirror, water bottle holder, and comfort seat plus another bottle holder for my MP3 speaker.

I did change out the pedals after the left one started making a clicking noise, which I found quite disruptive to the tranquility these rides provide....

Just ordered a Propella 7E (or E7, I forget) for $899. I wanted a Trek, but for nearly 3x the price, it just didn't pencil out for a new endeavor. If it works out and I like it, I'll pass it on and get a Trek.

Don't know about your area, but around here I'm seeing e-bikes EVERYWHERE now!

I still have all 3 of my e-bikes.....but am riding the Tifgalop pretty regularly with the other two out at my storage units and used mostly for auxiliary use.

Not sure what the market for these will be doing and since I love this Tifgalop so much I made the decision to get another just like it, which I plan to leave in it's shipping box until the time comes when I need it.

It's no longer called a "Tifgalop" I guess......but looks pretty much like the same exact bike and the pricing was essentially the same. Supposed to be delivered on June 5.

Just bought one of these a couple weeks back after selling my Husqvarna dual sport. Was not riding the Husky much anymore, and since it was a 510cc it was like a $170 registration with the 499cc cut off. Ride my Super-Moto significantly more and being a 400cc bike it's like $70 a year registration.

Have ridden it 5 times going about 10-15 miles each ride and hardly broke a sweat. Was surprised my legs were not sore in the least, and how easy hills were. Any exercise is good exercise, no? Looking forward to getting out to some local trails soon. A couple guys in my Jeep club do it all the time and I am looking to head out with them this weekend. They are old and fat too, so I think I can keep up...

Ms. Rocket has a Specialized E bike. It’s a super nice bike and has about 120 mile range, but it cost her 5K several years ago. It’s not full electric, you have to pedal, but it makes it much easier, and you can go further. I’m looking at a Specialized E bike, but it’s on sale for 2K. Even that’s a lot of money! I’ll sell my Electra cruiser to help offset the cost.

As a recent (first of this year) returnee to the sport of cycling (after a 20 year absence), I missed the introduction of e-bikes over the last decade or so. Imagine my surprise, after passing the bollards and "no motor vehicles" sign to access my local bike trail, when I started getting passed by, of all things - motorbikes.

A bike with a motor is, by definition, a "motorbike", is it not? It took me awhile to sort through the various "classes", their allowable power, their legal top speeds, and whether or not one must pedal to access the electric assist. I think I understand all of it now, but...

I regularly get passed by riders not pedaling whatsoever and clearly exceeding our 15mph bike trail speed limit. These are motorcycles, goddammit. Yes, I can see the case for older folks riding them, or couples wherein the guy can significantly outpace the gal but she can keep up by riding one, and all of that. But now that our sympathetic authorities have opened that door an inch, the ass holes have kicked it open a mile and are riding right through it. There are well known hacks to increase power and speed, rendering the legal limits on these things laughable. I see them exceeded, dangerously so, each and every day I ride one of our many local trails, and in the bike lanes on our motorways. It's time to "pull the plug" on e-bikes on bike trails and in bike lanes. Back to human power only.

I'm sorry I have been made to feel this way in such a short period of exposure to these things. The bad actors, however, have well and truly ruined it for the well intentioned. That's just human (some humans) nature, I guess. I feel sorry for those whose lives these e-bikes enhance. They have been betrayed by the selfish louts who will seek every advantage in everything. The only way I can see to reign this back in is to just revert to "no motorized vehicles" once again. Either that, or I get to start riding my Road King right past those signs as well.
