Sounds like “old man coffee shop rumours” to me.. What if your car was an old 930 like mine with over 500 HP at the wheels and no electronics or ECU and no Nannie’s to turn off? If I crash it do they just take me to jail?

Or the hospital.
Or the morgue. I think if LEOs suspect a crime has been committed, they will seize evidence (ie: the vehicle). Always remember: if you don't think you they're out to get yez. For every mile of road, there's two miles of ditches. ![]() Stay safe. Best Les

Looks like a California. Really sad that the officer didn’t know whether male or female driver.

Don't want to be a buzz-kill, but I'm okay with very insurance premiums and mandatory liability bonds related to horsepower/torque. Wouldn't stop the wealthy from being dicks, though, just would prevent us poor folks from driving a used 400hp Mustang. Seems like you have to pay to be an idiot. The drivers of the Ferrari and the Tesla were/are just rich people using a public road as a racetrack. Hopefully, somehow, the Tesla driver is found.

I was a little surprised at the age of the Ferrari driver (at least according to this article.)

The portion of the highway he was wrecked on was the only passing lane for miles. Somebody didn't back off at the end of the passing lane it appears.

That Toyota Venza must be one hell of a tough car!
“He slammed into two cars, Templado said. Nicoletti's Ferrari hit head-on into a Toyota Venza driven by a woman identified as Pauline Bui. He then crashed head-on with a Mazda driven by Daniel Ryan, authorities said. Nicoletti was thrown out of the Ferrari, which split in two, ABC 7 reported. Bui was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center with minor injuries, and a passenger in Bui's car was taken to Mission Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, the report said. Ryan was also taken to Mission Hospital for minor injuries.” As for the driver of the Ferrari, I have no sympathy for him at all. I just hope that he had a lot of liability insurance. The drivers of the other two vehicles need to sue the hell out of his estate.

This bill is being sought because a dick in a Lambo Aventador was driving like a dick, lost control and hit two teenage girls at speed. They were just walking home from the shops. He killed one, and seriously injured another.

If you dig around the NHTSA website you’ll find that they don’t, manufacturers can get exclusions for small production runs. There is some crash test info at safercar.gov

Also, crash test standards are set for legal speeds. If I recall correctly, the crash energy increases with the square of the increase of the velocity. That is the sort of energy that rips cars apart.

They seem to like to split in two, but I don't know if that's a feature or a bug or simply the high speeds that lead to these types of crashes.
