23.9 per gallon in 1972 and I was old enough to drive - just barely. Gas war, though. I'm thinking normal prices were in the 35 cent range.

Pack of smokes and gas for a couple days for two bucks.

Brand new Corvette was well under $5k.

Edit: Just saw Sooner or Later's post about gas wars

I had my drivers license in 1968. Gas was 25 cents and the local gas station sold me Marlboro cigs at 25 cents a pack.:)

I don't think they had Virginia Slims.

Camel (I'd walk a mile for a Camel)
Tareyton (I'd rather fight than switch)
Kool (Come all the way up to KOOL)
Marlboro(You get a lot to like with a Marlboro)
Chesterfield (It satisfies)
L&M (Just what the doctor ordered)
Salem (Take a puff, it's springtime)
Lucky Strike (Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco))
Winston (Winston tastes good like a cigarette should)
Pall Mall (Wherever particular people congregate)

A certain Chevron in small town central Mississippi is still $3.55 for regular unleaded today. It's a convenience store that also sells Chester's Fried Chicken. There was a "Chester's chicken on the run" bag on the ground by the pump. Made me think of Paul McCartney. Chicken on the run la la laaaah la la la laaaah la chicken on the run.

I smoked Newports for a couple years because they were mentholated.:)

I remember the Tareyton commercials well...the guy always had a great shiner!

Then please explain why the last thread was moved??

No one owes you an explanation for anything. Back off.

We all know the reason and it takes two to tango.

Take all the crap to the PARF thread.

This thread has merit in it's basic form as did the first one and I'm enjoying it and knuckle heads are stealing it from me.

I don't give a shiet who wins the argument.

My left arm is numb. Ahhhhh. You f**kers.

stevej37 07-27-2022 11:56 AM

I had a pint of Voodoo Ranger IPA last week at a car show.
It was citrusy....but not bad at all.
It also was strong. I forgot to ask them the abv...it was on tap.

We'll see Nick in two days.

Here is the deal, folks, and this is not up for debate: Comment on Moderation and off you go.

There are certain posters here that like to think their input has more value than others. It does not, me included. Follow the forum rules and you'll be fine. And, BTW, Z and I do not read every f'ing post...get over yourself.

Now, keep this on track, politics out and it can stay.

Best.

I remember those days. In the gas wars they'd give you a drinking glass or something if you got a fill-up. And they'd pump the gas for you.
I didn't like that. When I would pull in with one of my 356s I would frantically jump out and open the hood (the gas filler was under the front hood), then run around back and check the oil, then stand by the hood so the hose nozzle wouldn't jump out of the 4 inch diameter filler hole and the pump jockey wouldn't try to slam the hood down and bend it in half (356 and early VW issue). My girlfriend was driving, and at some point the pump jockey went to her and asked, "Can I check that dipstick for you ma'am?"
She said, "No. He always acts like this."

Banks would give you a toaster if you started a $1000 savings account.

Seahawk and Bob, my comment had zero to do with the moderation. It was just stating the reason why the original was moved. ( and rightfully so....)

I give you guys a ton of credit. You both have way more tolerance than I would.

"He always acts like this" is awesome.

Do you remember the SOHIO license plate winners list in the 60's.

You had to go to the station and look at this gigantic sheet of microscopic font license plate numbers that were eligible for prizes I think most prizes were a few bucks but there were some big money prizes.

It was an outstanding hook to pull peeps into the SOHIO stations.

All this talk reminds me that I never traded in my books of Green Stamps and Top Value Stamps.
