^^^ Perfect.

The Bray folks from the link called me and they were excellent. They are putting me in touch with folks in my area.

local ad you want the guy who just redid the kitchen with matching theme

and want to move the whole set of older but good for 10% of replacement costs

I see several every week [who have something I want] but will only sell the whole set at once

They don't make 'em like they used to. If she wants high quality ones, then they are available but seriously pricey.

I'd agree with at least one post I saw: Consumer Reports is worth the price of subscription right now. if anyone can tell you about reliability, CR will.

Most GE is good for my money. Fancy can mean 2 things: spendy and trendy, or crap as in the case of Fisher and Paykel. I know what I'm talking about or I wouldn't have bothered.
GE is made by Whirlpool...stay with the tried and true...simplicity of function is best..less to go wrong...low to mid-line for a rental or for any application for that matter. high line multi function is a waste cause you ain't gona use all the bells and whistles..

long life low maintenance is what you are after..

I recently had to replace my GE dishwasher after 19 years....went with a SS Maytag at Home Depot for 650.. 10 year warranty on the motor. I wish it had analog controls instead of digital..everything is fkin digital now.. I do like the machine..

Washing machines..find a good used DIRECT DRIVE made by Whirlpool under various brand names... the new washers crap out after a couple of years...and they don't clean as well. Per a washing machine repair man..

My suggestion is to pick the brain of a guy who repairs these appliances. he can tell you what is problematic and what is not.

Ted, Chinese company Haier owns GE appliances, among several others. I am fairly certain GE is still made in the US though.

Whirlpool owns Jenn-Air, Maytag, Amana, Roper, and KitchenAid.

Here's were badge engineering comes into play. Jenn-Air is considered fairly high end. KitchenAid also. Maytag, solid middle class quality and Amana and Roper are more for the masses. What does Whirlpool do? Takes a Roper, or a lot of parts from a Roper, slaps some stainless steel all over it and then sells it for 2-5 times the Roper as a Jenn-Air. Same internals, same build quality for the most part, just prettier.

I bought an 06 Roper for $80 used back in 15, and have been using since 16...so it is about 15 years old...it can keep things real cold...

And I stand corrected about GE..

Last year I had to replace my 20 year old HVAC system...I got two Goodman 5 ton units..kreeps me toasty in winter and cool in the summer.

TAbs, they still make those old fashion clicking, twisting knobs with a ding when done you are after but no home owners, not enough bells and whistles, no energy star, water saving features, buys them anymore. Check with your appliances repair places. Ones that are specialist in commercial units. Apt owners know those are bomb proof units but they only can be found there. That's where I saw them last.

Thank you. I went with a 650 ss Maytag. At my age it is a race as to which one will break first.

I also had to replace my 19 year old Panasonic micro oven last year with a 1250 W Panasonic..169 at SAMS.

So a number of appliances came due last year.

My only advice is get ready to experience the new normal in appliances---- 5 year lifespan. Especially fridges.

There is a local business that buys older fridges from the 2000s, fixes them up, and sells them. He can't keep them in stock. Our fridge is one we bought in 1998 when we moved in to this house. It has a great working ice maker, and no silly $50 water filter to replace every few months. No fancy electronics, just basic cold.

We had an issue with it not blowing quite cold enough.

It had frozen up and stopped the air flow.

The defrost heater had fried itself.
I defrosted it manually, ordered a heater, and few days later installed the heater in 30 minutes. All is well. Yeah for 1998 technology! It is sad that it is better than a new modern fridge that would cost $2,000.

My Bosch dishwasher is 18 years old and still cleans like a champ. Made (or put together) in North Carolina. https://www.allamericanmade.com/where-are-bosch-appliances-made/

Probably just jinxed myself.

It is a mess these days. Repair guy told us Samsung and LG fridges are essentially not serviceable. The part to fix a bad compressor costs almost as much as the fridge.

That's not an accident.

Spent an hour at Lowe’s today. Darwin’s waiting room.

I could not imagine trying to manage the goat rope I watched.

Reached back to the Amish folks. They will be out tomorrow.
