It has not been too bad. The first couple of nights were the worst. Mainly because it was routine.
Done it for 20 years.

No sugar / no alcohol for 30 days.

It is sort of a pain in the rear. I did the same in September. It was harder then.

I consume WAY too much sugar and alcohol apparently converts to sugar in your body. So I kicked it for a month.

Interesting. I do drink a glass or two of red wine every other night or so. I thought the alcohol would be tough. It really isn't. The sugar is more difficult.
Same here. Rather than Dry January, we call it Low Carbuary. It includes no alcohol, but as mentioned above, the reduced sugar is much more difficult. The transition from not eating bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. takes me about 3 to 4 days of always feeling hungry, before my bodies sugar levels out. Now it's just a matter of keeping it up until the end of January. I'll typically lose about 10 to 15 lbs during the month - and I generally feel much better and sleep much better.

I'm moderate in my intake of alcohol and don't feel the need to avoid it for a month.

For those of you choosing to go dry, more power to you!
Wife, kids and I go to the gym every night. When we get home, I make a protein shake for my son and I, and the wife pours herself a glass of wine or cracks open a beer. Says she's earned it.

Good for those of you that are permanently dry. That is awesome!
This has been good for me. I have an expensive wine habit. Probably good to give the ol liver a break too. Who knows, I may wait until my birthday in February (23rd) to crack open a bottle of wine. That'll be happy 62 to me.

This thread is such a clever way to get bottles of wine for your birthday, and thoughtful too, giving us all time to find the right ones for you. Do you want them sent to your home or the RMG shop?

Hey Walter_M!

I haven't kicked the carbs all out like you. How tough is that? I power down anything as long as it isn't sugar. So, bread is included. I would like to hear about how this is? It sounds very challenging- but also beneficial.

I've done this low carb (Keto) diet in January for about 4 years straight. The first time I did it, the difficulty was finding recipes, but now, I have a lot of recipes and some are good enough to incorporate all year long.

I typically lose about 1/2 lb per day without increasing my activity level. I am normally pretty active, and I think I eat pretty healthy, but it's always surprising how much I depend on all the extra carbs such as bread, potatoes, rice, or pasta. Getting my sugar under control and evened out during the day is a much better way to live - I just need to find a way to incorporate more of this into my everyday life. I'm weak when it comes to temptation.
