If you really want one, wait a year and get it for a decent price.
Or shop around and buy one online and skip the whole dealer thing,
of which ford is the absolutely WORST IMO!
Wow, over invoice for a PT Cruiser! Yikes!

I know that miatas we going for over invoice when they first came out. I kind of "get it" for those. I think the S2k was going for over invoice, and I get that to some extent. I think the NSX was going for 50% over invoice (going for 90k but invoiced at 60k) when they came out, and while I've never driven one, by all accounts, they were an impressive car that was competitive outside of it's class, similar to the other 2 that I listed.

I have to imagine that the PT Cruiser was so wanted because it looked so different from anything else on the road. I guess for a lot of people looks are far more important than anything else.

I hate car dealers. There’s a Ford dealership south of Charleston that has the price marked on the sticker and they sell them all day long. No haggling and hours spent ****ing with them.

My last two new F150’s were 2001 and 2014. Traded the 2001 in for the 2014. It had 225,000 on the clock. I’m at 178,000 on the 2014. This will be the last vehicle I own.

I do find that kind of odd.

Around here if something is for sale for a certain price, that's what it is.

If a dealer tried that around here he would end up in court with charges under the fair trading act.

Usually what happens is when you start heading for the door the dealer calls out "I can throw in a new towbar. Towbar and roof racks?"

Not just there. Japan's used car market is dirt cheap.

The salesman would revolt if no one is buying cars this month. I'm sure they're telling people its inflation and the price won't go back down.

Saw this with the motorcycle segment last year. Prices already have come back down a bit.

Every new car goes for over invoice, unless a tree fell on it or something.

I think that you are getting your terms mixed up.

The PT cruiser, BTW, was essentially a neon with retro body...........

I needed a car recently and can echo the above... I ended up with only 2 choices that were not charging dealer markup locally. Tesla and Polestar. I'm not too fond of Musk and uneven door gaps (or ugly cars frankly) so I ended up with Polestar. pleasant end to end, but it's an EV so not for everyone...

It is very expensive to own a vehicle in Japan. Expenses depend on engine size. Japanese vehicle inspection know as“ Shaken“ is considered to be one of the most expensive roadworthiness inspection in the world.

Personal cars and motorcycles need Shaken every two years but new cars require first Shaken after three years. Combined cost of Shaken includes registration fee, weight tax that depends on total weight of the vehicle, annual Automobile tax, mandatory insurance and one time recycling fee. All this amounts to Yen 200,000-300,000 which is equivalent to USS$2000-$3000.

Shaken is more expensive for vehicles with bigger engines and for older vehicles. This is the reason why most vehicle owners like to get rid of their vehicle within the third year before the expiry of Shaken. Most used vehicles available at Japanese auctions will be three, five or seven year old with expired Shaken with an average mileage of 40,000-50,000kms.

What I found frustrating was there was a window sticker that did not show any mark-up. It wasn't until after the test drive and you are sitting in the office that they announce oh yeah we are marking it up 50%. I thought they had to sell it for the price listed on the lot.
Plus they hardly know anything about their product. I knew more about the truck than the salesman.
What a train wreck

Yep, and I drove a couple of neons as rentals, and they were horrible.

Yep, they usually don't need to know much about them because probably 90% or more of folks that buy them only care about superficial details, color, whiz-bang features, etc...

You have to admit that the GT_ cars are VERY special cars. They are probably about like the Porsche version of the GT350R, and various GT500 in your world, or better yet, the 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R which was a very special mustang indeed (at the time).

THere is a difference between spending 50% extra for a PT Cruiser or a GT2RS.

This is 51 minutes long, but damned enlightening about what's happening in the car biz right now.

After living in a "company town" now for 10 years I guess I have different experiences as most everyone gets "the discount".

Recently bought a Cadillac CT4-V for about $5700 off MSRP. What you need to negotiate is the trade in, which for me was just trade it before used prices tank.
