so, this is coming down tomorrow

inherited a tree house when i bought my place that was well build and pretty cool that enhances an already spectacular view from the top of my mountain. only problem is the floor was done out of 3/4" OSB that was painted but it did not hold up to the winter moisture and is super squishy and could not be trusted. seldom do I have friends with kids over, but at least a few times kids would stop by with their folks and immediately wanted to visit the tree house. warned parents and told them that it was not sound to let their kids up into. always caused a breww-haha, tears and fits have been shed and thrown...

so i've decided to bring ir down. started by cutting the uppers of the 4 legs of the black oak that it was built on for tomorrow's splash, irrr crash down... got a crew of 4-5 coming by to film it, even will have a drone launched and filming. or, take it off me and to call EMS should it fall on me before the winch is running. have a plan to cut a single leg that forks and pull it down with a winch from the jeep, a snatch block and a couple straps. will leave the landing and 2x6 rungs in place to stabilize the thing while cutting the single leg before i drop that mofo..

will likely load a couple of the videos captured to my old youtube page that I will link. should be a smashing goodtime.

So burning it down isn't an option?

bonus points for incorporating your safety blinky.

(actually, the best video would be to state you are going to plant cordite in it, then, secretly, plant cordite in every other tree and bush in the yard, and blowing up entire yard- leaving the lone tree fort standing)

Put the beacon on top and leave it up… you need the beacon to keep planes from hitting it… there was a near miss already and look what it did to the floor…

ah, no. I have a burn permit and do consume a ton of manzanita for my fuel reduction efforts, but it's very specific, vegetation only. plus, even with all the snow and rain we had this winter I am still in a rural forested area, the wind does come up in the afternoon & it is really already fire season. I do my burning in the morning before the wind comes up and have done the last of it for the year. my hip replacement in mid feb really cut down my reduction efforts this year. i borrowed a dump trailer and will load it and pay by the pound to dump it after i cut it up from the ground.

it could be saved if i wanted to by replacing the floor, but i have no use for it. the 2x6 rungs from the landing up into the thing along with said landing mid way up cannot be trusted. here is a photo of it a year or two back with the tree intact. as you can see ive already cut holes in the walls and removed all of the tree above the thing to lessen the weight as much as i could from up high. notice my buddy's daughter on the landing cause we would not let her go all the way up into it.

I have been up in it a couple times, and even gave my lady the what for in it once a couple years back during a lovely sunset moment...

Were it mine, I’d seriously consider fixing it then erecting a barrier to reduce your culpability for negligence by protecting it from infiltration due to it being an ‘attractive hazard’, much like a swimming pool. Fence, locked gate, signage.

But that’s just the romantic in me.

Tree houses are always sketchy. I built this one about 5 years ago and it seems a bit wooblyer than then I built it. Maybe its just my legs. My family has gone up once but im kinda the only one brave enough to go up there other than racoons so no real danger other than to myself.

That ain’t wobbly.

Back in the day we built tree houses out of rotted barn wood, real estate signs and the occasional canvas feed bag.

Seems a shame.

It does have a certain architectural merit about it.

Nice views! Beers’ kids are big now. It’s been a few years since we all got together.
