Questions for you folks with 2 Post Lifts

For my upcoming 60th Birthday present to myself I'm thinking of buying a 2 post lift.

For those with 1st hand experience, regarding the "cross-over", what are the advantages of it running along the floor between the two posts, or a Bump Stop cross-over at the top of the lift posts? Seem like the overhead bumper might limit height as I want to store 2 Pcars, one on top of the other during winters.

So, floor mounted or top mounted cross-overs.???

Thinking of getting an extra wide extra tall one too for my 3/4 extended cab truck too, so 2 stage, or 3 stage arms would be needed to extend arms to narrow riding lawn mowers or my Side x Side.

I'm trying to not over think this. So let me hear your good stories and horrors of trials/tribulations....

This distributor is only an hour from my house and will drop ship for free. Install it for another $8-900 drilling all the holes in the slab and such.

My 16 foot tall Eave High Bay of my Shop on the far side has been crying out for a lift for over 2 decades!

I went with the top bar because I didn't want the bar on the floor.
Mostly so I could roll my snowmobile around and I roll my car back and forth quite often so I don't have to start it.

I have a top crossover Rotary. My only regret is not getting an asymmetrical lift.

I can easily stack 2 cars with it. With a 911, you don’t get to the point that the roof will ever touch the limit switch. They aren’t tall enough.

I went with the cables on top just because I wanted a clear floor. Works great for storing or working on cars. I've never had an issue with the top limiting what I want to do. On the arms however, I have a couple of cars which are too low for them. I need to drive up on ramps to get the arms under them. If your supplier offers low profile arms that's something to consider.

The Shop has been an interesting adventure as I've done 75% of the work by myself....... 30x30 left bay, 30x30 middle low bay, and 34x36x16' high bay. so roughly 3000 sq feet . dream it, and it shall get built

No joke. I don't know whether to be jealous, envious, say Rusty Heap is my hero, OR ask him to marry or adopt me. Dang, that is nice.

Thanks all, I appreciate your love of my shop. yeah it don't suck too much do it. grins.

I had several mentors early on in my life, that said "buy all the land you can, because they're not going to make any more of it" so I've lived on 5 acres almost 35 years now.

The second friend said, Built the tallest roof you can, and max out your building site footprint.

Been there done that.

I hope to be the next influencer, Any project comes down to Time, Money, and Priorities. OFTEN we only have 2 out of the 3.

Definitely over the top, you have the ceiling height. Bottom plate is in the way for rolling jacks, toolboxes, etc. IMHO only reason for the bottom plate would be low ceiling height.

Why not a 4 post?
2 post you have to get on your knees and set the arms.
4 post you drive on and hit a button.

That is exactly right. With 16’ lid, get the biggest that fits. My garage is 12’6” and my 3/4 maxes out at about 5’ off the ground. It sure beats a creeper but another foot of lift would be nice.

I know you said you have a place close but I ordered from these guys. Super happy with my 2-post. Check out https://www.derekweaver.com/?gad=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmZejBhC_ARIsAGhCqnczPgO4uPnK5wsJvLMB YvfCRjZmQP_LnROiH4hRDDfYPkk7xfsJtN0aAvFJEALw_wcB

I bought a used 7k top crossover 2 post Challenger for my man cave . I like the clean floor and I like the extra rigidity of the connecting steel up top . The lift is much less likely to collapse inward .

My only regret is I wish I would have bought a 10k . My diesel dually pickup is over the 7k rating of my lift .

4 post hoists are for oil changes and displaying your car. 2 post hoists are for those who actually work on their cars.

I had both. Some jobs are easier on the 4 post like suspension and brakes, you have a work surface, places to jack from, and can raise and lower the car while various parts are supported by the lift. I also did 911 engine swaps on the 4 post.

I had a microlam that was cut to fit between the channels as another jack point.

I want to store 2 Pcars, one on top of the other during winters.

Do you have any occasional leaks with the Pcars? If so..where do you put a drip pan on a 2-post lift?

+1

If you are serious about getting work done, two post assymetrical.
