Home run island911!!

It has taken us Americans over 200 years to get to the place where we are the preiminent example of the rule of law and religious freedom in the world. Yes there are other nations as well who stand with us in this, but it has come to us through centuries of blood, sweat and tears. I disagree with those who want results right now in IRAQ. Immediately!! BACK OFF! Give it a chance! One cannot do a complete 3.2 engine rebuild in his garage overnight.

Benson

What is all this demand of instant
success in IRAQ.

SPQR = Senatus Populus que Romanus - the Senate and the Roman People. The proud reality (and later, under the Emperors, fiction) that Rome was ruled by its people and representatives - a reality that allowed them to accomplish more on battlefields and trading posts than their oppressed contemporaries for the simple reason that no matter their race, Citizens of Rome were free (men at least, not women, not slaves).

Eliminate slavery, add women to full citizenship, and harness all that free people can do, and you have a good basis for America's power today.

Not perfect by any means, but no absolute rulers/Emperors yet!

(And despite the hysterical press of the last dozen-odd years (Clinton/GW), Lincoln has come closest!)

Lincoln has come closest!
U got that right....Suspended Habeaus Corpus, but to his everlasting greatness...he held the Presidential election of 1864, which he felt he would lose to McClellan, who wanted to make peace with the South, thus recognizing their independence from the Union.

Lincoln was villified in his own time even by his own Cabinet, who thought he was no better than a Baboon or monkey. It seems that the second after Lincoln died the country realized what it had lost...

Of course, who knows what THIS might bring in implications toward our troops or our interests abroad and here in the U.S.

The news has already talked about widespread cheers, etc. But this IS HUGE (if true), and if it is true, I think it's bigger than the war itself.

I have to ask this: so what? If these 2 guys are dead, honestly, what difference does it make?
  • Will the guerilla attacks on US troops stop? Um, no,
  • Can our troops come home? Um, no
  • Will this end the triple-dip recession Um, no
  • Does this justify the umpteen billion dollars for the fascist oil invasion? Um, no

So, honestly, apart from the political opportunism, it's not much more significant that finding a rare Poke'mon card.

You make a good point. But GW never invaded Iraq with an idea it would rid the economy of its ailments. As for our troops not coming home because of this, you also make a valid point - they're in there for a very long time; this changes nothing about their deployment.

The size of this story is simply that these were two of the three men who were very elusive to the U.S. troops. Plus, they are, to a degree, hinge points of the U.S. invading Iraq to begin with.

Rare Poke'mon cards in circulation are not vengeful, do not kill proactive Iraqies whom what to move the government forward in a 21 century sort of way.

Iraq is a country which has been living in fear of this family.

It's about burying the tyrants. . . IT'S ABOUT MOVING FORWARD.

Dead scumbags aside, this don't amount to jack squat in the big picture of a what a ****ing quagmire iraq is rapidly turning into.

If you think things are bad now for US troops and Iraqis, lets see what a few more weeks and months of anarchy, chaos and increased amounts of guerilla activity do for the situation in Iraq.

Many experts are saying that political repression aside, the average iraqi has it even worse than they did living under the Saddam regime. Saddam was not int the business of opressing the majority of the population, so you can only imagine how current events are making the average iraqi feel about US rule in THEIR country.

I guess as long as the oil fields are secure, the pumps are running and the existing contracts to european and russian contrators are ripped up and given to US aligned contractors all is well as far as the Bush regime is concerned.

And that reminds me, I saw the best bumper sticker the other day for the upcoming presidential elections.

It said "Regime Change 04"

None of which represent "the economy."

My advice: if you want a better personal economy, buy some of the Bechtel and Haliburton stock.

I don't think Bin Laden's listed.

Hey Widebody are U sure that your not really Babara Boxer...or your trying to bait the Gallery here??? I really can't believe what U said is your true opinion? I suppose your also a Grey Davis supporter as well, and cried when Rose Bird went down to defeat. Moonbeam Jerry is your idol and Willie Brown is your Godfather? Nancy Pelosi is your idea of the perfect whip lady, and Hillary and Al Sharpeton is the perfect Democratic ticket for 04.

Hey I am all for a 12% Sales Tax in California, plus higher Gasoline, Tobacco, Liquor, car registration, user fees, property tax, city and or county income taxes, toll roads, ulitility tax, tutition and income taxes in California....I see nothing wrong with that...just think of all the illegal immigrants on Medical and Welfare you'll be enabling to achieve a better lifestyle. It's your DUTY to see that these disadvantaged people have a helping hand... Or just think of how much you'll be hurting the fat cats who support ole GW. Hey Man I'm all for it....Somebody has to support the Peoples Repblic of California.

The Pentagon better show the bodies of these two, or it's the legend of Pancho Villa all over again, especially for the Iraqis.

Since its too soon for genetic tests they had better hope they are right.

After claiming certainty that they are dead the pentagon will look REALLY bad if either of these guys end up coming out of the wood work.

How many times has the pentagon declared Bin Laden and Saddam dead now?

Never definitively, IIRC. "Probably" or "most likely". But not with certainty.

Dental records show 100-percent certainty Qusay is dead. 90-percent sure Uday is also dead - there's damage to some of the corpse's teeth that fall in line with injuries Uday suffered in an assassination attempt.

Sorry, I don't remember the year of the attempt...1996, I think.
