Glad you are ok. That must have been scary for you both. My wife is the only person I know who the doctor told to use more salt. She already puts it on everything but is a very light eater. When she had her 1st hip replaced, she was in the hospital for an extra day because they couldn't get her BP up high enough.

Broccoli is better overall.
Spinach has a lot of oxalic acid, but wilting it (a little heat/steam) somehow fixes the issue with the oxalic acid.

Phew, I just mowed the yard. We have had 8.5 inches of rain so far this month. Everything is growing like mad. It was still rather wet from the 75% humidity. The heat index as I finished was 105. So my sweat glands are flushed once again.

I felt 100% fine the entire time, just hot, but heck, it is summer in Oklahoma.

I did cheat and skip edging and trimming. It is just too wet to do that. I left ruts in the grass it was so wet, and it has not rained since Monday morning, but the last 3.5 inch rain really got things saturated.

Happy to hear you are doing good Glen. You can never underestimate a head knock/injury - so many factors to consider and each event is different for others.

SNIP from one of my previous posts -

24 years ago I passed out at Target, fell back head first onto the concrete floor. Halo skull fracture and impact seizure - I "woke" in the ER that day. Took me out of work for nearly a month So I have some experience here. Consulted with the neurologist who worked on me and others during follow up care. Bottom line is there is still much to learn about the brain and it's many differences between us. He said he has treated folks with damage like mine, generally vehicle/motorcycle related, and some (like me) luckily turn out just fine. He also treated folks with minor bumps to the head who suffered long term/permanent damage.

Flip side is non head/brain events. Last week I had a radical nephrectomy (right kidney cancer) performed using latest robotic techniques. You would think this is something really major...well it is. But medicine has really advanced. I went into surgery 0730 and by 1800 I was walking the hallway under careful guidance from my nurse. I went home the next day at 1500 with a my-onQ pain pump installed. Two days later I pulled the pump tubes out of my main scar and stopped the narco drugs at night.

So realistically you and I were in-patient for roughly the same amount of time. Remarkable! Definitely pay attention to what your body is saying - if you get dizzy grab something close or better find a place to sit. You have the water consumption down - good on you!

I longed into my "patient portal" to look at the test results, and the list is long. Much of it is gibberish to me. They did, as mentioned, do a CT scan and the neurologist said all was looking normal, and no evidence of bran bleeds, or problems. Fortunately I have a hard head, and no damage done.

The ONLY times I feel dizzy is sometimes after sitting for a while on the couch, If I stand up and start walking I get a dizzy feeling, but only once in 50 times does that happen, usually later in the evening. I just ignored it before and walked it off. No more. If I feel dizzy, I will sit back down, and wait a bit and try again.

The main reason I even started the thread was to share the fact, that a lightheaded dizzy feeling after sitting for a while, and then standing up is not to be just ignored.

I don't think I have ever felt dizzy just at random, and certainly not after being up and about and walking. When I wake up, I toss the sheets off, and literally bounce out of bed within seconds of waking up, ready to take a shower and get the morning going. My wife simply can't fathom it even after 31 years of marriage, she is not a morning person.

Not a morning person? Are you sure she didn't sneak up on you and ring your bell just to get even.

If I asked her a lot of questions and acted cheery and happy and talked real fast first thing in the morning, she would just stop talking to me at all for a day or two as my punishment. I could text important questions and get curt answers, no talking.

I am still amazed I have no bruises on knees, elbows, hands no sore wrists, just a 5 stitch wound on my forehead and one really really black eye.

My story now is that a big biker looking dude was hitting a 6 year old girl, and I had to whip his ass to save her. You should see the other guy!

I have had similar issues with dizziness upon standing. Before I had my aortic valve replaced in 2016, I took a couple of falls after getting up to pee in the middle of the night. One hurt, the other was a grab and sit. Pig valve fixed that.

A year agoish, I was in for a cardio follow up and the question about syncope came up. After responding, the NP checked my BP sitting, laying back and standing. Diagnosis * Orthostatic Hypotension. Heart went into overdrive when I stood and BP dropped big time. Close to 100 BPM vs my normal upper 50 to 60. BP was 80/50.

Cardio and I discussed and I did 3 tests a day for a month with my Omron - reclined, sitting, standing. Same results. Met with cardio again and decided I would get drugs to raise my BP and only take if I had any major fainting issues. His big concern was my skiing, especially at altitude and the possibility of a Sonny. More water and more salt. Script has never been touched and the salt and increased water seem to have significantly mitigated the situation. Still get a bit woozy sometimes but have learned to pause, squeeze my azz and core and wait a few seconds before taking another step. No doubt, it will come up when I see him again in a few weeks for a follow up and after my yearly echo.

Take care and no more flops.

One of the many tests the did in the hospital was to lay me flat on my back and do a BP test, sit me up, feet on the floor butt on the bed, and get a reading. Then stand up, and get a reading. All were normal range.

I sure wish I healed up as fast as TV and movie stars do. They get all beat up and shot, and two days later are looking good, and the bullet wounds to arms or shoulders are just a small bandage at most. I still look like I went a few rounds with Rocky Balboa. My eye looks worse first thing in the morning, I presume from laying on my back. The swelling goes down during the day.

The good news is with my baseball cap, and sunglasses I go into "movie star" mode and not scare women and children in public. I look just like George Clooney in that getup, well maybe not quite.

As we age, the gap between our skull and our brain widens. I guess our brain shrinks?

Anyways. When you fall, it’s the second hit that gets you. The brain slamming the skull. This got my mom.
She has recovered but falls are now scarier.

My doc joked I’m not old until I start falling.

I’m stoked you’re on the mend. The CT scan was a a great call.

When I was a kid, I stood up and had a huge stretch and then tried to walk off and ended up falling. I think folks call it a head rush. That was the only occasion where it impacted me materially. I've had much more mild "head rushes." When I do I pause for a sec waiting for it to pass.

Good call, being unsteady on your feet is nothing to sneeze at, and as you get older it's probably more important.

I had BPV once and it freaked me out.

I am a night owl, but like you, when I wake up, I'm up regardless of the time. I can spring out of bed any time that I am awake.

You're wife and my wife must be related. I'm usually up first. When she gets up, I don't talk to her, but I do make her a cup of coffee (when I'm home), and I mostly wait until she starts talking to me before I talk to her much. She is not a morning person. She takes a while to "wake up" before she's ready for interaction. I don't get it.

I'm glad that your mom is OK. I'm guessing that your various mtn biking crashes don't count. The good news is that now that you're kayaking, you don't have far to go to get to the ground and it's water, not ground. As long as a shark doesn't get you, you should be OK.

Something to scare all other geezers.

I am getting some nice yellows and greens and purple colors. My regular visit to my dermatologist is tomorrow morning. He will likely (as always) be zapping several spots on my face and neck, and some on my arms that are sun related damage. So I will get even prettier for the weekend with some burned off spots to match.

I see him every 6 months. Growing up in Hawaii and running around in shorts, no shirt, no shoes for years at a time is coming up to pay back time. Wear your sunscreen!

Like me he is old. We don't need to look pretty anymore. But I think you are right better stitches were in order.
