I'd go for one like that if it said 'Turtle Bar'

Turtle bar conversation after a few drinks " I'd just about given up for the day when the biggest shrimp I've ever seen in my life swam right past my nose. Without a word of a lie, he hadn't even seen me, I snapped my jaws shut on him in .5 of a second and swallowed him whole."

They love their shrimp.
I found another food they like....Kaytee Mealworms. Sold for birds and chickens, the turtles like them as an appetizer before the shrimp.

Worth a quick search. If he came from Germany in the 20's good bet he landed on east coast.

I googled mealworms. the fresh ones would bring out the hunter gatherer in the goldfish as well. I caught some live mosquito larvae in a pond and gave them to my goldfish. Wow, they went in like attack sharks. Mealworms would be the ultimate for them.

Good on him.

My Grandmothers people came over at the end on WW1, in rather a hurry if you know what I mean. they setup in Nelson here in NZ. A Very rich family. Even to this day a LOT of Germans come to NZ and move to Nelson. I don't know why they choose Nelson.

Thanks for that link....I'll do some searching tomorrow.
I was at Ellis Island in 2011 and used their computer stations to search for the same. I'm just not sure of the date of arrival and his birthplace.

Plus...everyone called him Fred. So..not sure of which is correct for the search.

These are freeze-dried and look like they are fresh or alive.
A half pound bag was around $9

Ancestry . com is great and some people are very good at finding a clue then another clue etc. Or... do the DNA thing and see if some Germans know of a Uncle Frederick who went to America.

The title of the thread made me think of a photo project we did at a old farm, in the barn, way out in the country. On the way to the shoot we drove by a bar that had a very large sign on top of the building, as wide as the building that just said BEER.

We worked out asses off, and we were hot and sweaty and there is no gas station or convenience store to stop to get a cold wheat pop. So we all agreed to stop at the bar. As we pull in there is not one car parked out front and we were disappointed thinking they are not open, but we saw some lights and activity, so we went in. The place was packed with farmers. We looked out back, and there were dozens of pickups, and several tractors parked behind the building. The air conditioning was great, and the beer was cold.

I asked a local, and he said all the farmers know to park out back in case a wife or in-law drives past. Damn good beer when you are hot and sweaty.

I like the girl in this video. Easy to look at, down to earth and industrious.

Would have been perfect for me in the way back. However, her general expectations of a guy partner would have ruined it.

Cool vid. I'm thinking how is she going to blow glass?

With all the labor, materials, and time..I would be surprised if she marked it any less than $600
She did a good job and one big positive is that it's dimmable, where as neon is not. (I think)

If I put up any kind of sign, it will be a weathered barn board or an old oar with 'Turtle Bar' hand painted on it. The turtles don't care and the weather would make the led life short.

[QUOTE=JackDidley;12071161]I think fluorescent bulbs in general have become near extinct. I wonder if a 15" LED is available ?

I was just checking my email and found one from lightbulbs.com sent Thurs.
"Item(s) Back Ordered - may take several days to ship"....lol

UPS dropped off the bulb today. Looking at the cardboard sleeve, it's rated for a lifetime of 9K hours. That's only one year.
I should have ordered two or three.

Can you show me a picture of the bulb? Or do you have a model number?

Will this work?
I pitched the old bulb days ago....and I would have to take the sign apart to show the new one.
Cardboard sleeve from new bulb.
