TMobile Internet

Installed tonight. Completely, wireless and just $50/mo.

So far working as well or better than Spectrum at $85/mo which I'm dumping if TMobile works well during the 14 da trial.

Hoping, weather or other issues don't affect the signal. we have snow/rain coming on Wednesday.

BTW, the modem was free and Netgear no longer needed. I've had problems with Netgear working. Behind on updates and hours on the phone w/support.

Been looking for an alternative to Spectrum for a while. I started at $45/mo and now costs $85/mo.

Just trying to beat inflation.

I have had T-Mobile 5G since last March. It works pretty good. Drops out maybe every 2 months and I just reboot it for the fix. Speeds are not as advertised. My download can be anywhere between 30 megs and 90 megs. That sounds terrible but I am constantly streaming video with no problems. Spectrum guy followed me through Walmart the other day making all sorts of promises for good deals. No way I will deal with Spectrum again.

I haven't had any weather related issues. I've never experienced weather related issues on a cell phone. The reason that satellite gets "rain fade" is that 1 It transmits a REALLY long way (22k miles) and 2 they are generally high frequency (higher frequencies experience attenuation more than lower frequencies, which is why sunsets are red/orange). Cell service is lower frequency than satellite so less likely to experience weather issues (unless it's flooded or struck by lightning and fried)

We've been using T-mobile for Internet connectivity since Mar of 2020 (first 2 years used an aftermarket SOHO device, Cradlepoint E300), and got the official "T-mobile Internet" service with the T-mobile Internet router early in 2023. I work from home and it's worked for that the entire time. Initially, we only had 4G service and I still got 10-100mb down. When they upgraded our tower to 5G, I saw an increase. Now most of the time we're 70MB - 300mb (sometimes it'll drop down to 10-20, but that's not common). Upload depends. If I'm on band 71, I only get 1.5-2.5 up, but if I'm on band 41, then I usually get 5-15 up.

We are about halfway between 2 towers, so I assume near the limit of good connectivity distance-wise.

Can you use T-Mobile Internet in different locations?

Can you move the modem around?

Let's pretend......

Your house in Austin
Your beach house in South Padre
Your RV

Nope. It's a cell phone so they know exactly where you are.

That's a good question. I think there may have been something about that when I got it (I'm sure that they don't WANT you to do it. Something about it registering to where you first powered it on and got it connected, but I can't remember for sure. I've never tried it, but I suspect that if the service is available in location A and location B, that it would fire up and work just fine if you moved it.
