Share a little known fact a Day

The fact can be about almost anything and should be of interest to most of us.
A fact can be abstract and *random.
The fact is better if it surprises most of the cadre here.
Car and mechanical facts are of most interest.
Rumors and nonsense should be squelched.
I will start with the random-

Random-*When I was painting the 911 and had it all apart, I found a piece of pipe- two-inch-long, by half-inch ID, with about a 45 deg angle cut on one end.
Galv or zinked, cant remeber .
Where it was found indicates it had to be there from its birth. Inside the left rocker near the front fender.

Animal Fact- Woodchucks (ground Hogs ) can climb trees!

Q: Why are manhole covers round?

A: It's the only shape that won't fall in the hole!

Q: If the Earth was a perfect sphere, and you laid a piece of string around the entire Earth's surface at the Equator, how long would the string be? Now, if you added one foot to the string, how far off the Earth's surface, uniformly, would the string be?

A stone, formed in the belly button of skin oil, hair, dead skin cells, and dirt is called an umbolith.

Edit, I know this fun fact as when my wife was pregnant, her belly button popped out and presented us with an umbolith😁

In the mid 1960's Pontiac developed their aluminum OHC cylinder head / intake / exhaust set-up to bolt onto an existing Chevy 250 six short-block. Called the "Sprint OHC - 6" in 2 configurations, 190HP with a 1 bbl, 230HP with a 4bbl Quadrajet. It was the first production engine to use a cogged drive belt to drive the cam. The belt was co-engineered with Dayton. There were multiple patents filed by GM. Every engine manufacturer after that, employing a timing belt, had to pay royalties to GM!

1966 Pontiac six overhead cam !
I saw just one of these once,,they might be rare?

The new OHC-6 debuted for the 1966 model year, completely replacing the 215-cu.in. pushrod six offered in '64-'65. Displacing 230-cu.in. and generating 165hp in base one-barrel carburetor form with 9.0:1 compression, the new engine far outperformed the previous 140-horse pushrod engine. The big news, however, was the Sprint version, as found in the Tempest Sprint, which featured a Quadrajet carb, 10.5:1 compression, a hotter camshaft, and a "split" exhaust manifold with dual outlets, all contributing to its 215hp rating. For 1968, the OHC-6 received a displacement increase to 250-cu.in. (4.1 liters, up from 3.8), which resulted in a power increase on the base engine to 175hp while the Sprint version remained unchanged. For 1969, the Sprint engines coupled to manual transmissions were rated at 230hp, while automatic versions remained at 215; the difference was attributed to different camshaft profiles.

https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/the-pontiac-overhead-cam-six

The overhead camshaft was driven by a fiberglass-reinforced “Gilmer” belt that was cogged and similar in design to the belts that drive superchargers. This was a major design deviation from previous overhead cam engines that drove the cams via gear sets and/ or chains. The 1-inch wide belt rode on large diameter cast-iron sprockets to help reduce bending fatigue on the belt and improve its life span. The major concern of the engineers was whether the belt would hold up to the day-to-day requirements of normal driving and provide an adequate service life. Early testing followed by a long service life validated the design and few if any belt failures were reported.

If a black bear stalks you, you are on the menu -which is rare.
Dont play dead.
If a Grizz comes after you, you have prolly done something stupid and you are getting a spanking. The discipline might kill you, but you will know not to do it again, providing you live through it .
Play dread.

Everytime you buy a DeWalt cordless tool, royalties are paid to Milwaukee tool which provided them the technology for their batteries. Milwaukee tool.

The world's highest recorded tide was measured in the Bay of Fundy near Burntcoat Head. 52' 6"
The length of the bay is such that its natural period is approximately 13 hours. The time between high tides is about 12 hours 25 minutes. Close enough to create a resonance, which produces the amazing tides.

The erosion of the sandstone cliffs around parts of the bay uncover new dinosaur fossils each year.

My first car in 1972 was a Firebird with the the 1 bbl engine and a "three on a tree" manual transmission.

We wouldn't know life as it is if water didn't expand when freezing.
