Last time I got a sub at Jersey's Mike's it was almost $20!

We have a local place here called Big Joe's Subs, and I got a large sub, chicken tenders and fries, and 2 brownies all for under $20.

And this was a larger sub than the one I got at Jersey Mikes.

And the food is fantastic!

BTW....is a sub shop considered fast food?

That is a good question. Although geared to the order, pay, sit down or take out nature of those places, I'd say that is fast food.

I think if you want to refine fast food you would consider that a place like TB, Micky's, etc. have bins of hot and cold ingredients all pre-prepared to build the meal assembly style. It that sense, SW is fast food.

Pizza works the same way but we don't call that fast food I guess because of the cook time. Good question.

^^^^ Though I never use the drive thru lines (I go inside to get my "to go order)... methinks all of those are fast foodish. I can go into Jersey Mikes and have them prepare a grilled CheeseSteak faster, or call in a decent NY style pizza and pick it up quicker than sitting in some of the drive thru Slow Food lines too .

I call in and pick up stuff .... a lot....

Went to the Banh Mi joint around 11 this morning .... place was busier than I've ever seen it .... ordered 2 and was out quicker than most drive thrus at lunch ....

I was the only white guy in there .... they were all speaking Vietnamese .... most of the customers too

Cool place .... I'm glad Pelican caused me to go discover it!

We also have this local institution, where thanks to Brad Pitt's visit last month during filming of his "racing" movie....the "Famous Burger" is now known as "Brad's Famous Burger"...

Five Guys has really good hot dogs. But the price is ridiculous....

I went to Jimmy John's just once. I ordered and they handed me my sub 20 seconds later. No choice of toppings. Is that normal there?

I like Firehouse for their hot sauce selection, which includes a grading list of how hot each one is.

There motto is "freaky fast" and they are. When they have the full crew they are starting on the sandwich as you order it. Often by the time I pay I just walk the few feet to the delivery spot, and the two sandwiches for my wife and I are ready. And they will make them to order in in the same amount of time. It makes me wonder why it takes so long at other places.

Pretty much, you can request changes or additions, but they do tend to just make them as listed on the menu. They also are all cold. I used to order their BLT and then go home and nuke the bacon- delicious!

If Jimmy and Subway had a baby, that would be an awesome restaurant- Jimmy’s bread with all the choices of Subway!

I doubt it. You should see the lines. If an expensive Starbucks is an indication — it takes at least 20 minutes to get one at the drive through.

I just finished an Arby's Fish Sandwich....excellent and huge.

The bill for just the sandwich was $5.89 with tax. As I was leaving the drive thru, I spot a sign by the road which I hadn't noticed when I drove in.

It said....
Fish Sandwiches...two for $6

One I did not see above is Dairy Queen. I like the "Dude". Now that Portillos is in Texas, I cast a vote for them as well, although I have not eaten at their Texas location, only in Berwyn. Whataburger is hit or miss. There are two Whataripoff's in my small home town of 25k people and one is definitely better than the other. That's on the franchisee.

I once worked McDs grill solo (no cashier or fries) during downtown student rush at 16.

Also Taco Bell during the continuous 20 pack specials.
All ingredients prepared fresh. Damn we were good. Beans in a pot. Meat in a vat. Cheese grated on site.
The prep area full at all times during rush.

I understand the mentality.
