I turned around and bought one of these a year later (again, not mine but same color). 1973 Opel GT. Loved that car...

I thought GLC officially stood for "Great Little Car," but apparently that's what the North American marketers dubbed it. I remember the Opel GT being nicknamed a "baby Corvette." I looked to buy an Opel Manta, but never got one. The Kadett was a plain Jane.

1969 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe.

This is not mine, but it's spooky how much it looks exactly like it, but LHD.

I bought my first car in 1972 at 15 years old, for 15 bucks. A smoking-but-running `63 Impala SS.

Sold to to a buddy a month or so later for $90 and thought I made a killing.

Glen and I had the same year VW as our first car. The below isn't it but so close:

I paid a friend of my Dad's, who left California for a job in DC when I was 15 for his 1960. He was a CS and the move was handled by the government. The price of him flying to DC from LAX at the time was $156 USD...which is what I paid for the car.

Slower than a bad movie, handled like a hog on ice and was sans gas gauge: But, it got me off the ranch every time I wanted to.

My first car was a BRG on black 1970 MG Midget with wire wheels and a factory hard top. Foolishly, I wanted something with AC, so I sold it.

1959 Austin Healey 100-6 two seater (no jump seats) got it when I was 15 and sold it when I was 61. Had a lot of fun in that car when I was a young man!

My first car was a 66 Chevelle 2 door with a 283 and power-glide tranny.

A complete dog compared to todays cars. It was fun back then because it was faster than most other cars in the 60's.

I have no pics...cameras were not easily available back then.

Four summers of miserable farm work to buy a used firebird. Didn’t budget for insurance and tires. Drove her to school about three weeks and ran out of money. Back on the bus.

I had a 52 Henry J with a Chevy 265 V8 and 3 speed manual transmission. On July 21st, 1969 the flywheel exploded as I was driving home from a local grade school. I had driven to the school to set the engine timing with reduced ambient light. I decided to go the school parking lot because neighbor Bill was trying to watch some guy walk on the moon and my solid core plug wires were not helping his TV reception. The shrapnel from the flywheel explosion put 2 holes in the hood, took out the left front tire, cut off the distributor at the neck and put a hole in the block. Luckily the guy that built the car had reinforced the floor or I may have lost a foot. The next small block Chevy engine that went into my Henry J had a forged flywheel and Lakewood scatter shield. Glen, what color was your ‘60 beetle? Mine was Arktis Blau until I ran the left front fender into a guardrail while testing out some new Michelin Xs. Then it was Blau and primer gray.
The gas pedal was an ON/OFF switch. It was either full power (such as it was) or no power. Paid $600 for it and sold it for the same amount after taking the Xs off and putting them on my new, powerful, 40hp ‘63.
