Watched this '86 930 beauty get into last-minute bidding war today. Saw $141K at 1:30pm and by 2pm it went to $177K. Winner would not be denied, last two minutes of bidding kept getting reset with a 4-way battle until finally sold for $184K at 2:08pm. Mine is not nearly this pristine.

Is anyone surprised? This is dealer to dealer, what are the odds that consumer markets are rigged.

I think this is one "special" Ford Product...an eye popper in '56...true luxury and style. Must be something about the car I don't know..bid seems low to me.

(edit) Jeffrey, I click on the link you gave above and the article mentioned doesn't show...hmmmm.

Link doesn’t work, what auction site was that? When I had a dealer’s license I used to buy all the time through Manheim, but you could also bid in person as well. You could easily have people driving up prices online, I bet it happens frequently on all the sites. Even just getting a buddy to bid would be a way to game the system.

When I was at university, a friend of mine, had his dealer license and we would go to the closed to the public dealer auctions. We would buy wrecked, repossessed, turn ins, etc. I bought a 1984 911 for my brother. Next week I was talking to some guy and he said he bid against me to raise it up. What a jackass.

I just noticed this on B.A.T.....Meyers Manx located in Reno......up to $13,250K with 14 hours left......

Seller's comment in the comments section.....

Thanks for all the comments on the Myers Manx. At age 82 I am passing this icon along to someone who will appreciate it as I did. Let me add a little information and some history as I know it in this note.

Our Myers Manx is an early model and I have made efforts ove the years to put it in the best shape I can. There are not too many of this kind around. Not that that many were made. Lots of imitations, but this is the real deal. “Manxie” as we call her seemed to be born as a street-legal dune buggy in 1984 in AZ. I think she was in the unlicensed road situation for some unknown amount of miles before that date. I acquired her on e-bay in 2009. I was bidding against someone else who really wanted her too, but he got stuck in NYC traffic and could not put in a final bid. I was lucky. I had it shipped via top-notch service to our home in the SF Bay Area. When I got it I test drove it and got it up to local highway speed of about 45mph and it ran great.

I was working 14-16 hours a day during my last few years with my company, so Manxie was stored under cover as I went through the process of getting her on the road legally in CA. That is not an easy thing to do. I had it mostly done and through the DMV and just needed the CA HWY Patrol to sign off on it when I was put into a layoff/retired mode and we decided to move to Nevada and we bought a home there in 2011 and moved there in 2012. Once in Nevada I got sidetracked with so many other family needs that I could not get back to Manxie until 2016. By that time the buggy, just sitting in storage, had a small fuel line leak and so I put it in the shop in 2017 with instructions to “fix and upgrade everything regardless of cost.” The buggy shop did just that. The Buggy Barn is a straight shooter. Great job. I have put more thant $9K into Manxie just in repair, fixing, and upgrade costs.

Shortly after Manxie was fixed up mechanically I went through the process of getting her on the road in NV. There were many steps but not the more severe roadblocks of CA. Just when she was fixed up and ready to go, I unfortunately came down with West Nile VIrus and just did survive that illness. As part of that experience I lost my abiltiy to walk and had to learn how to do it all over again. I remain partially impaired today. I can shuffle walk but using a clutch for any period of time is not on the table. I kept hoping that someday I would be able to drive Manxie up to Virginia CIty, that was my target, but it was not in the cards. So, last year I sent Manxie back to the Buggy Shop for another overhaul effort (after being in storage for 8 years), and today she is in excellent shape and ready for a new owner.

In terms of condition, she has a few nicks and chips, hardly noticeable, and a bit of fading up front, and some undercoat staining from the old gas leak, but otherwise in good shape. The transmission is new, as are many other parts. The one change I would make for any long runs is the addition of new rubber. The mechanic said the tires are functional, no cracks, they work, but just because of age I would replace them. I thought I would leave that up to the new owner since there is a variety of choices and looks.

I know the video is short and funky. I asked the buggiy shop folks to drive and shoot a short segment since with limited ability I have only driven the buggy just around the block once since 2017. Perhaps I can find a way to add a bit more. I have had to have it towed both to and from the shop since the illness impact, and I have not drriven it. I love the comment about the excellent “tire grip” as the video by the shop folks goes sideways as Manxie takes off on its run. That made me think the buggy should be renamed “Spiderman.”

One other note. Manxie is licensed and registered in my name in NV. Upon sale I am required to turn in the current plates. If someone in NV purchases the buggy, there may be a way to pass on the plates. Found that from my reading on the DMV site, but hard to guarantee what will ever go down at the DMV. Also just remembered I wanted to mention that Manxie comes with Blue Ox towing equipment, and the buggy appears to be wired for towing but I have never towed it myself. Have had only flatbed towing several times to get it fixed up and flatbed towing home.

Hope the above words are useful. If you have any questions or comments please bring them forward and I will do my best,

Thanks,

Chuck

This ‘71 911S got pulled. It’s a rough, non original engine, poor gaps version. Looks like it got damaged during the auction.

^Nostalgia is expensive...somebody born early 60's would have had a bike like that.
