The missus and I worked outside for a few hours today, clearing some branches that had come down around the yard and building a burn pile with them. I washed my car. The missus mowed about 2 - 3 acres worth of yard today.

(going on 72 years)

Pics from this am....shoveled the approach to the garage....easier than using the snowthrower in a confined area. The 2nd pic is what I had left to use the thrower on.

About 10 minutes for the shoveling and 5 minutes for the rest with the thrower.

Nice, dry and light is definitely the kind that you want to deal with!

That would certainly eliminate the need to shovel/clear.

I use a brush burner to melt the ice on my driveway and sidewalks. Not quite as cool as a flame thrower but still effective.

Wind chill near zero right now. I'm on a standby crew at Lake Hopatcong today for the local Polar Bear Club plunge. These people are nuts!

The cold front hit here this morning at 7:00 AM. It dropped from the 40s down to 23 and still falling at 8:30. We also have very high winds from 40 to 60 MPH.

We went to our customary Sunday morning breakfast place at 7:30 and we were the only customers there. Even when we left, we were it. They have a mostly older customer base, and they all just stayed home I guess. The roads were still 100% clear and we have only received 0.01 inches of precipitation. We are forecast to get a dusting of snow. That is plenty!

JackDidley 01-05-2025 06:48 AM

Well, we were predicted to get freezing rain but we got snow. A couple inches and still falling. Better than freezing rain, I think.

Snow is way better that freezing rain.

For sure. I can just stay home anyway. Being old sucks but being retired has its perks.

Yeah, forecast here is 8-10 with a quarter inch of ice or so towards the end. Last time we had snow and then freezing rain enough trees came down to knock power out for several days to a week...I have a generator but not big enough to power everything...
In Va we're also used to snow disappearing after a couple days, with the cold it looks to stick for quite a while. Long range showing more (3-4) the following weekend.

berettafan 01-05-2025 08:16 AM

Greg that' say worry as well here in Md. Going out in a bit to get gas for the small generator.

Looking like most all of this storm is going south of Michigan....which is rare.
The cold air is going to dip all the way into Florida. Freezing temps there, but no snow.

Skoolz will prolly close tomorrow ... this wuz a bad one :D

onewhippedpuppy 01-05-2025 01:15 PM

Well chalk up another day of shoveling snow without my heart exploding! We got about 6” with maybe 1/4” of ice/sleet underneath. We got off easy compared to those to the North and East of us. The roads in KC were a mess last night.

stevej37 01-05-2025 01:34 PM

What kind of snow thrower did you buy?
