If you get a spin-clean, pick up some extra towels. I just got these a couple days ago. Work great

Ramones where do you buy your vinyl? My Kenny Burrell is maybe beyond a hand clean. Is Discogs a good place with trustworthy grading?

For used stuff I only buy local. We have 5 great record shops here. I’ve bought a few on discogs and had no problem but I’m lucky in that there is nothing I can’t find here if I look. I much prefer to examine the quality myself. My rule of thumb is, if it isn’t mint or close to it, I leave it behind unless I’m planning on framing it. I don’t tolerate noisy records and I care about the health of my stylus. No dollar bin records and I don’t bother looking for deals. There are none. Sometimes they look clean and minty but are still noisy but that’s pretty rare, especially after a cleaning.

John Prine records usually sound fantastic as do most JJ Cale and Ry Cooder records. Happy hunting !

Stopped in a shop today to check out the leftovers from Black Friday. Picked up the Stormtroopers of Death, Anthrax and the Get Yer YA Ya’s Out. Anthrax LP was warped but my vinyl flat took care of that.
For new records generally, I am buying mostly the Jazz Reissues and other reissue series like the UHQR series from Acoustic Sounds or Amazon. I like Amazon because of their return policy. I have about a 50% defect rate on incoming new vinyl. PITA! Also, on Amazon it can be confusing regarding which pressing you are buying, import gray market? Etc. Sometimes I get it off the artist website…such as WILCO’s site or John Prines’s site

I may have just given away a Ya Ya's album... along with a box of others ... to a total stranger... along with some Jimi, old Clapton, and Peter Tosh, etc.
Anyone interested in the rest .... mostly old rock, blues rock, etc.? I have several thousand CDs, and need to rebuild my system.... Next year

Beretta, I should bite my tongue, but the universe would be better off without the tt on the same surface as, and worse, within a foot of the speaker.

was following the jazz part of this discussion. Been listening to jazz for quite a while buying a lot of ECM recordings in the day. Will need to look at my collection and pick a couple. As jazz goes, these two clips, one old, one new set a tone that I quite like

New speakers came in about two weeks ago. Fiddling with placement within reason.
Dead spinning tonight.

I eventually got a good result literally rinsing and washing in the sink with one of those edger paint pads, then pat dry then use a commercial cleaner spray and microfiber puffy thing product for final clean. I think this is doing more or less what the spin clean does.
Trying to decide what % of my vinyl purchases might be used and benefit from a more sophisticated cleaning machine.

Lintons are really nice speakers. I auditioned a pair when I picked up my SX-1250.

I'm enjoying them for sure. Didn't really have a lot to compare with but they seem to do all music well. Some others i demo'd did not.

Back during Covid I lost my job and was out of work 1 year. So, I got the spin clean and actually cleaned about 2,500 records at the kitchen table out of boredom. Took all summer. This was a real pain in the azz but I am glad I did it. Now, when new records come in, when I get about 5 new ones, I clean em and I use a little sticker on my resealable sleeves so I know it was cleaned

Just got the 2 new Blue Note Classic reissues - Freddie Hubbard and the Art Blakey- from Amazon. Both were badly scratched on both sides, like someone took 800 grit sandpaper and made a swirl. Immediately ordered replacements and those have the same issue. This is why I try to buy new releases from Amazon. This BS will annoy your local record store owner quick and I hate to return them because they basically have to eat it and hope to sell as used copies.

So how the heck does that happen? Is it the cheap paper sleeves abrading it? I bought a bunch of those Mofi sleeves to replace any cheapies.

every record i have has a mo fi sleeve. the BN classic series when it came out used cheap paper and after everyone complained because of damage they switched to a paper and poly lined sleeve so i am not sure how two different titles could have this happen twice but i assume something is wrong with the sleeve. i was too annoyed to look closer and likely just wont by any more of classic series. the BN tone poet series i have had very few issues but different pressing plant and attention to detail and high price
